Chapter 19

"Idina... you really can't fool around with cars, luv" said Chad.

"I didn't" said Idina.

"Idina, don't lie to your father" said Calvin.

"No lie, Cal-fin. I not dwive" said Idina.

"Then what were you doing behind the wheel" said Andy.

"Someone gwab me" said Idina.

"I told you she stayed put, Chad" said Calvin.

"Calvin, enough!" Chad snapped.

But then he felt another sharp pain in his stomach and gagged. "Andy... d'you have a bucket?"

"I think so" said Andy.

She ran to a corner, grabbed a bucket and handed it to Chad so he could throw up in it.

"If she wasn't the one driving, who was?" said Calvin.

"We gotta tell Sam about this when she gets back" said Charles Wallace.

"Idina, honey... do you know who was driving?" said Calvin.

Idina shook her head.

Chad lifted his head and said, "I knew you kids weren't the right sitters. Chances are you put someone up to trying to kill my baby."

"Chad, you know us better than that" said Charles Wallace.

"And maybe you should dial it down before you barf again" said Andy.

Chad groaned in pain and flopped back. 

"Daddy?" said Idina with fear.

"He's fine, sweetie; he's just sick" said Charles Wallace.

"Yes. Your daddy's just got a bug in his tummy. Don't worry" said Chad.

Idina crawled over and kissed Chad's belly. 

"Andy, if Idina didn't drive..." Chad began.

"I'm sorry, Chad. She has to stay until we've confirmed she's telling the truth. And I have a date, so I have to go" said Andy.

"Besides, you just vomited in the cops' bucket. You gotta get back to bed, Chad" said Charles Wallace.

"I can't just leave Idina" said Chad.

"She has us" said Calvin.

"No! I'm not letting you two near her again!" said Chad.

Then he started to cough even more violently. 

"Will you let us near her now?" said Calvin.

Chad relaxed and said, "Very well. But this is your last chance. If I find Idina in the execution hall..." 

"There's no such thing. Just relax, okay? I'll get you home" said Andy.

"Thank you, Andy" Chad whispered.
