The first thing Weems heard that morning was the frustrated huffs of her daughter. She rolled onto her side, finding Wednesday flat on her back staring up at the ceiling.
"Good morning, sweetie..." Larissa cooed, pulling her little into her arms. "How'd you sleep?"
Wednesday yawned, turning so her face was pressed into her caregiver's shoulder.
"Good." She mumbled, sticking her thumb in her mouth. "See 'Nid today?"
"Yep! Are you excited?"
The little didn't respond, snuggling closer to Weems. They basked in each other's presence for a minute before the older of the two decided it was time to get up. She stretched her arms and legs as she stood up, making Wednesday whine at the loss of warmth.
"Come on then, up you come."
Larissa scooped her daughter into her arms, holding the sleepy girl on her hip. Making her way to the bathroom, she placed Wednesday on the changing table. As she got the girl ready for the day, she started to wake up more, wiggling her toes as she tried to touch the women's nightshirt..
"You're in a cheery mood today! Why don't we get you fed and get your favorite dress so you can look adorable for our company?"
Wednesday nodded, quickly agreeing to the suggestion of food. Because food meant milk, and she liked milk.
"But first, Mama needs to get ready, okay?"
The gothic little pouted but agreed again, allowing her caregiver to place her on the toilet seat in just a nappy. She waited all of two seconds before reaching for something on the sink counter.
Larissa didn't pay much mind to her daughter as she got her hair products and make up from the locked drawers underneath. Closing them she stood at her full height, reaching down blindly to grab her toothbrush but found the spot empty. Confused, she looked at the counter wondering where it was when she swore it was there two seconds ago.
She double checked the drawer again, making sure that she didn't somehow miss it the first time. Quiet giggles drifted up from her left side, and she glanced down at her daughter.
"Mama, 'ook!" Wednesday laughed, her words muffled around the toothbrush between her lips. She practically bent over double at the sight of her caregiver's face. "Mine."
Thanking god that it was a new toothbrush, Weems stuck her hand out expectantly, raising an eyebrow.
"Sweetie, that's Mama's toothbrush, yours is in the drawer."
"No! Mine!"
Larissa sighed slightly, gently removing the toothbrush from her little's sharp teeth. Wednesday pouted, mourning the loss of her new toy.
"If you want to brush your teeth now with your toothbrush, you're more than welcome to, but you usually prefer to wait until after breakfast."
"Gimme it back!" Wednesday screamed, making the woman cover her ears as the bathroom echoed. "It's mine!"
"Ouch- Darling, we do not use our outdoor voices inside. We use our words at a lower decibel. Now, this is Mama's you can have your own- Wednesday put that down."
"Minde!" She had grabbed the can of hairspray that Larissa put on the counter. She reached her other hand out making grabbing motions. "Gimme back."
Raising her arm away from the dark girl, Larissa sighed. She was going to have to deal with this today. Thankfully Marilyn was coming over, maybe she could get the girl to behave with Enid;'s presence.
