Sooo...I started watching Yellowjackets. And made some OCs. Currently only one is fully formed, though, so enjoy some art of just them :)

Also ignore the fact that they kinda look like a monk DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT. *cries*

I tried out a new style with the watercolor pen, except it DOESN'T FUCKING BLEND LIKE WATER COLOR! It just doesn't blend??? At all?? It turned out how I wanted, but I was definitely struggling.

Anyway, this is Bernadette Bouchard (my alliteration child, lol.) Aka Berne. Aka Sharkbait (the reasoning behind which basically boils down to the fact that they were really good for a freshman, leading to the tactic of giving them the ball to draw opponents that believed they could "easily" corner them and make a steal, only for Berne to dodge last second and send it to someone they left open while focusing on them. Or, in short, they were bait for metaphorical sharks.) If you haven't noticed from my repeated use of they/them, they're nonbinary, even if they only know that in the adult timeline.

It's funny that Berne is the first OC I fleshed out, because, while I haven't entirely planned out the plot, they're the least involved post crash. For the first months they store up a bunch of food without telling anyone, before going "fuck you, got mine" when everyone else starts starving and disappearing into the woods. Like in the later half, they literally believed Berne was dead until the group was found.

Which like...I get Berne's logic. It's easier to keep one person alive than an entire group, especially when they were the only one who was preparing to survive more than, like, a week. They also don't really know post of the girls. They're all older than them, Berne was homeschool until that year, and none of them made attempts to actually get to know them before the crash (in fact, they were often openly rude and dismissive, to the point of talking about offensive rumors in front of them. Which, while Berne wasn't nice to them either, doesn't cultivate loyalty.)

But also, you have to admit, that's incredibly shitty. You don't have to like people to not let them starve to the point of being so desperate they form a cult and start eating each other. Especially since the way Berne saved up food 100% put everyone else at a disadvantage (keeping food they caught instead of sharing it, stealing from the group stores, and keeping anything that could be used to save the food the team did have to themself.

This fact also might be why I ended up developing them so much. Everyone in this show is toxic and weird to some extent, and I think that's something under explored in the few fanfictions I've seen. Everyone has the "best" response instead of...IDK...realistic ones? So, I just let Berne be selfish as fuck. They deserve it. As a treat.

I promise my other ideas are...better? Um, no...comparatively better people? Messed up in a more acceptable way?

But whatever. It'll take awhile before I figure any of these characters, since, for all I've picked up through the internet, I haven't even finished season 1 yet. I don't even know that much about the adult plot, for example, because people focus a lot on the teens and the forest plot. I just wanted to draw Berne, because I stand by my cancelled child. <3

Oh, also! Berne's appearance (mostly their hair and eyes) is based on Ari Notartomaso, who is also nonbinary and has a lot of good images and even a few good gifs. So have that free faceclaim suggestion for people looking for nonbinary faceclaims!
