When is it socially acceptable to leave a horrible date?

Matthew continued talking, while chewing his food. What is he even talking about now? Who know, I lost focus on the conversation about half an hour ago.

Matthew and I are colleagues on the same job. He works a floor above me. And being chronically single, I didn't want to reject the first man to ask me on a date in a long time. He's always been nice to me, not really my type but attraction might grow.

But whatever little attraction there was instantly died when he opened his mouth.

"... so I get that she left me for her ex, but why did she have to lie about it? I was perfect for her! But she still left me for her ex. He's not really all that. He's actually shorter than me and..." My god, he won't stop talking about his ex.

It's obvious that Matthew misses his ex. I might even start missing her too if he doesn't stop talking about their breakup.

I sat across from him in silence, nodding to his story as I took a bite of the food I'd ordered. Disappointed, I put the fork down. Even the food is a let-down. But hey, this café is cozy at least. The chair were wooden, and the round little tables had white tablecloths.

The waiter walked up to us, smiling. I hope for my sanity that he is bringing us the check- Oh. Looking at the waiter, I couldn't deny that I felt instantly drawn to him. His curly brown hair and high cheekbones were one thing, but it was really his eyes that got to me.

"Could I perhaps tempt you and your date with some Wonka chocolate?" The waiter leaned in, revealing a plate of macarons. I looked down on them and couldn't help but smile. They look like tiny giraffes! Absolutely adorable.

"Would that cost extra? No, thank you!" Matthew said.

I opened my mouth: "I'd love to buy one."

The waiter walked around my chair and pushed a tiny plate with two giraffe macaroons towards me.

"Two for the prize of one for the pretty lady." The brown haired man placed a hand on my shoulder, leaning in. "Trust me when I say that you have never had chocolate like this." He said with a playful glimpse in his eyes. His eyes... Why do I feel so drawn in by those hazel coloured eyes?

I tasted the macaroon... And was not disappointed. The waiter was not lying, I've never tasted anything like this before. Saying that it was good would be a serious understatement. I looked up but to my disappointment I saw that the waiter had already moved on to a man with glasses to offer him some of the same macaroons that I'd just had.

Turning towards Matthew, I noticed that he was still talking to himself about his ex.

"Matthew..." I suddenly said, interrupting him. He turned quiet and looked at me. "You're a great guy, but I think you should maybe take some time for yourself so that you can get over your ex."

"Oh, well, you might have a point." He admitted. I smiled towards him.

"It's okay, see you in the office?" I stood up and walked towards the sound of singing. Yes, singing. The cute waiter from earlier was now singing and dancing on the table, while another man was dancing on the table beside him. It felt like watching a performance, I couldn't help but clap.

A woman, employee of the café judging by her clothes, walked up and pulled the tablecloths from underneath the dancing men. That did not bother them at all.

"He doesn't even work here!" The woman exclaimed.

He doesn't? Then who is he?

"Get yourself some Wonka chocolate!" The man sang, and before I knew it, so many people had gathered around him and his little table. Wanting to buy some of his chocolate.

I kept my distance. Wonka, was his name? I think I've heard of him before. That he's an amazing chocolatier. Undeniably, there was something truly magnetic about him.

He looked up from the crowd and saw me. He gave me a warm smile and I raised a thumb towards him, to say that I really liked his chocolate. That somehow made him smile even more.

I'll definitely buy his chocolate again.
