8. Long Read Ahead

You are driving on the freeway. Your eyelids grow heavy and the snoring of your brother doesn't quite help your situation.
He fell asleep hours ago.
And you've got enough. It is 2a.m. and you are tired as shit.
You look at one of the signs, searching for the next gas station.
'5 miles' it says.
You sigh and slow down the jeep.
Your legs ache a bit due to the constant using.
You pull the car in a parking lot and cut the engine.
You relax your body and slump back into the seat.
Your brother stirs awake, probably because of the lack of movement.
"What is it ?"
"I'm tired." You yawn.
"It's okay, I'll take over. You did great." He smiles.
You get out of the jeep, walking to the back door.
Opening it, you lay down on the bench.
"You sleep. I'll drive the rest."
He moves in his seat.
"But I'll take a piss first." He mutters and grabs a few coins from his wallet.
He runs off.
You sigh and look around.
Cherokee looks at you through the window, begging to be let in.
You get out of the jeep again and let the dog down the loading ramp.
"Take a look, boy. And go pee. I don't want to stop again." You smile groggily.
Cherokee trots off to a bush and you look around.
There are a few trucks and one car here.
It is quite empty and somehow it scares you out.
You whistle for Cherokee to come back, and he is by your side in a second.
"Come on boy, lets get inside."
You whisper and hold open the jeep door.
He hops in and lays down.
You lay your head on his hip, using it as a pillow.
Cherokee doesn't seem to mind it.
You reach inside your bag, grabbing your phone.
You unlock the screen, smiling at the picture of you and Piers.
He is giving you a piggy back ride. Your arms are thrown around his shoulders and you kiss his cheek.
You huff a laugh.
You unlock it and grin at the wallpaper.
This is a picture of you and Piers kissing. His hands are caressing your cheek while you took the picture.
Then you see a few missed calls.
'6 missed calls: Piers "Whoops...." you mutter and open Whatsapp to text him.
>> Hey :*
>> Hey :) Where have you been all the time ?! D:
>> Driving ? Duuh...xD
>>Oh...yeah...hehe..xD
>> What were you doing all day, then ? :)
>> Missing you....):
>> Aww....): I miss you, too. ):
>> I can't wait to have you back in my arms. The bed seems so...big...:(
>> Are you calling me fat ?! xD
>> What ?! No ! xD Women...
>> Did I woke you up ? D:

Your brother finally comes back inside the car.
"Everything okay back there ?"
"Yup. Everything okay." You answer tired.
He starts the engine. It seems like he didn't even notice Cherokee inside the jeep. What an awesome dog.

>> No, you didn't. Couldn't sleep anyways...
>> Awww....just...imagine me, laying next to you, tracing the lines of your abs and scars....*smirking smiley*
>> Mmmhmm..go on..*smirking smiley*
>> I lay my head down on your shoulder, placing feather light kisses on your skin.....
>> And...?
>> The rest...you will see *two smirking smileys*
>> Great, now I want you to be right here even more...):

>> I will. Now go to sleep. I love you. :*
>> I love you, too, Piers :*

And after that, you lock your screen again, sliding your phone in your bag.
You close your eyes and snuggle up to Cherokee.
He gives a whine and your eyes crack open.
"Did you let the dog inside ?!" Your brother exclaims.
"....I don't know...."
"(y/n)....."
"What ? It is way more comfortable to lay on him...." you search for an excuse. It is a poor one, but at least something.
"And by him...you mean..him...don't you ?" You can hear the smirk in his voice without even looking at him.
You sigh.
"Yeah..."
"Don't worry. If everything will go fast, we'll be back in no time."
You hum approvingly, almost in your dream land.

The sun is rising again, waking you up.
You groan.
Your eyelids are still so heavy, and your head throbs.
"Good morning, princess." Your brother purrs.
"Morning....how far is it ?" You ask, sitting up slowly.
"2 hours, I think."
"Can we take a break ? I think we should let Chero take a piss."
"Okay."
You sit up, and Cherokee crawls up to you, laying his head on your thigh.
"Hey, buddy." You ruffle his furr.
You grab your phone and light the lockscreen. Chero looks at it and whimpers.
"Now you miss him, huh ?"
He looks at you with puppy eyes.
You lean down and whisper in his ear "I miss him, too."
The car stops and you climb out and Cherokee runs off to the next bush.
"I'll drive the rest." You offer, rubbing the sleep from your eyes.
"No, you don't. You drove more than two thirds of the way. You take a break. Text your boyfriend." He chuckles mischievously.
"Haha..." you fake laugh, but as soon as he disappeared into the gas station, you grabbed your phone.

>> Be careful. Love you, too. :*

You put your phone back into the bag.

"Ready to roll ?" Your brother asks, letting Chero hop in.
"Yup. But I'll roll." You smile and snatch the keys from his hands.
You get inside the jeep and start the engine.
"Tsk...women..."
