It was starting to get dark as crickets chirped in the grass by the time we were back inside the walls of the schoolyard. As we walked in, we saw AJ sitting on one of the picnic tables, lightly swinging his feet. He looked up when the gate shut with a loud clatter behind us. Immediately, AJ ran over and grabbed Clementine's arm and looked up to her.

"They're pretty good," He said to Clem and I stood with them. "With monsters." He finished. "Yeah they are." I agreed, looking over and seeing Marlon, before turning away to avoid witnessing what was about to happen next. Marlon had walked over to us, coming up behind AJ—which was a BIG mistake—and put a hand on his shoulder. "C'mon, y'all, food's nearly–" he got cut off by AJ swiftly elbowing him in the groin, knocking all the wind out of Marlon and making him keel over. "AJ!" Clem exclaimed, and AJ just ran off because of what he did.

With a long draw of breath, "Shit..." he breathed shakily. "Kid packs a goddamn wallop, huh?" He said and looked up to Clementine, hands still on his thighs. "I'm so sorry about that. It happens sometimes." Clementine said and I turned back to face the two. "He's a jumpy little guy," Marlon spoke.

"Are you gonna be okay?" Clementine asked.

With a nod, Marlon stood up with a hand on his abdomen. "Look, he can't go around punching people in the...you know...and expect 'em to eat at the same table," Marlon said and looked over at AJ, who was standing beside the gate. He looked over at us three and saw Marlon looking—instantly he turned back around. "Marlon, he's just a kid. Cut him some slack," I spoke up and crossed my arms. "I understand why he's so jumpy—he had to grow up faster than all of us did. I'm sure he's seen some shit out on the road." I defended, and Marlon gave me a scowl. Clementine seemed to smile a bit, though, and seeing that made something in me stir.

"You never met these two before today, you never met any of us, actually. So I'd be a little mindful of what I say, if I were you," Marlon responded and I rolled my eyes, before I just turned and walked away to the table where I had my bag placed. Behind me, I heard Clementine's sweet voice float on the light night air, "I'll go talk to him." She told Marlon, but I heard footsteps come up behind me. "Hey, Clem," I said and set my bloody hatchet on the table, before turning around to face Clementine.

"I just wanted to come over and say thanks for defending AJ back there, Y/N," She said with a smile.

"Oh? No need to thank me. I've been out there for a long while myself—I know the horrors..."

"Yeah...at least I can rely on you for backing me up when it comes to that. I don't think these other kids have seen what it's truly like outside these walls."

"I agree—but if you ever need me for anything, don't be afraid to ask. I probably won't bite~"

With that, I just realized how that came off—er, probably came off...I wasn't sure if I meant it to be seductive or not. Clementine blushed a bit in the dim moonlight, and chuckled. "Well, at least you're not a walker, so I'd rather have you bite me than one of them," Clementine replied and god, my heart nearly stopped. I didn't expect such an answer from her, but okay then. "Well, you should go check on AJ now. We can talk more at the table while we eat, and I'm still down to serenade you the right way," I hummed and Clementine nodded.

"I'm looking forward to it, so I'll talk then," She then waved and walked away and towards AJ.

'Oh. My. God...oh my god—I just flirted with her?!' I thought to myself and sat down on the picnic table bench behind me. 'I just—and she was okay with it! She, she even blushed—Jesus christ, Y/N...now I don't want to wake up, if this is even a dream.' I thought to myself, staring off into the fading orange and pink sky—today was one crazy fucking day, and I knew as time went on, it would just get crazier and crazier...more and more questions started to pop into my head, too... 'Later on, what if I offer Clementine on a date? Like Louis and Violet do...I would love that, but what could I do...' I sighed, and off in the distance–even though it wasn't very far, but with how deep I was in my head, it seemed miles away...I heard Clementine talking to AJ about what happened with Marlon.
