Listening to Door to Dusk - Odetari on loop while writing this chapter.

As the chase continued, Asher's heart sank as he watched the van carrying Damian suddenly pull away, escaping their grasp. The van made a sharp turn, disappearing from sight for a moment before reemerging on a different street. Asher's frustration grew, but he knew they couldn't afford to lose focus now.

His phone pinged, indicating a new message. Asher asked the officer to check the message for him. As the officer read the contents, his face turned pale, and he quickly handed the phone back to Asher.

The message was a picture sent by Pierce, showing the interior of the van. In the image, Pierce was seated in the backseat, holding an unconscious and tear-stained Damian in his lap. Asher's anger reached new heights as he stared at the picture, his resolve to rescue Damian strengthening with every passing second.

As the van continued to evade them, it suddenly entered a construction site. The driver expertly maneuvered the vehicle, using the construction equipment and materials as barriers to slow down their pursuers. Heavy machinery and debris were dropped behind them, creating a dangerous obstacle course that the police cars couldn't navigate without risking damage or injury.

Asher's heart raced as he watched the helicopter above the van, hoping it would provide aerial support. However, his hopes were dashed as smoke began billowing from the helicopter. It started to spin and fall, its engine struggling to keep it aloft. The helicopter's tail spun wildly, a clear sign that it was in distress.

As the van exited the construction site and sped away into the distance, Asher could only watch helplessly as the helicopter crashed to the ground, engulfed in flames. The sound of the explosion echoed through the air, a chilling reminder of the danger they faced in their pursuit of justice for Damian.

With renewed determination, Asher and his team continued their chase, knowing that they had to find the van carrying Damian before it was too late. They couldn't afford to give up, not when Damian's life hung in the balance.

After removing any trace of a tear that suddenly rolled out, Asher turned to the officers and his men who followed.

Pierce held Damian close, his eyes gleaming with a twisted mixture of affection and madness. It had been months since he had been this close to Damian, and the sight of him bound and helpless only fueled the dark impulses that simmered within him.

As Damian squirmed in his restraints, his eyes wide with fear and confusion, Pierce's lips curled into a cruel smirk. "Asher can't save you now, can he?"

With a cold smile that sent shivers down Damian's spine, Pierce leaned in closer, his breath hot against the Damian's ear. "You're mine now, Damian. And no one will save you from the fate that awaits you." And with that, Pierce's grip tightened even further, a manic glint in his eyes as he reveled in the fear and helplessness of his captive.

As they arrived at the house that Pierce had purchased for his plan, Damian couldn't help but notice how normal the neighborhood appeared, with houses nearby to avoid raising suspicion. The dead of night enveloped them, providing cover as there was no one around to witness or save Damian from his predicament.

Desperate to escape, Damian tried to break free from Pierce's grasp, but he held him firmly by the waist with one arm. With his other hand, Pierce withdrew a wad of money and handed it to the men who had accompanied them, instructing them to leave. The men quickly took the money and departed, leaving Pierce and Damian alone in the darkness.
