When no one was looking, Mackenzie grabbed the keys to Matt's construction truck. She got outside and hopped in the driver's seat. She took a deep breath, inserting the keys into the ignition. Matt's head turned up and he ran outside.

"What do you think you're doing?!"

She turned the car off. "Dad-"

He walked over to the car. "Give me the keys,  and get out of my truck."

"But dad! You said you would take me driving!"

"I meant after shift."

"Dad, we've been sitting around here for hours, with no call. Come on."

"Let me ask your mother first."

"Yeah bad idea."

"Why?"

"Does she trust you driving?"

He laughed. "No, not really."

"Why can't Rae teach me? She's got a license."

"You have to be at least twenty five in the state of Illinois."

"Well that works out great. You're thirty six, so you can teach me."

Gabby was walking up the sidewalk. She noticed them and walked over to the truck.

"Hey guys."

"Hey mom."

"What are you doing in your father's truck?"

"I asked him to teach me how to drive. And guess what? He won't."

"Matt, teach her."

"Not in my construction truck!"

"We haven't had a call in hours. The least you can do is keep yourself occupied."

"I'm not sure that's a good idea."

"Dad! Get in the car and let's go! Come on!"

"You better go, Matt. No use keeping her waiting."

"Keep the ambo ready in case we crash."

"Dad!" Mackenzie smacked him.

"We'll be back in an hour. Okay?"

"So what's the plan? Where do you wanna drive?"

"Let's start with the route to the police district."

"Really?"

"Your uncle works there. You know what a dangerous city this is, it's just to be safe."

"Alright, alright."

She drove a little too fast for Matt's liking, but Antonio met them outside.

"Look at you, all grown up and driving." He said, giving Mackenzie a hug after she got out.

"It took a while to convince him."

"Let me guess, your mother said it. Didn't she?"

"She did."

"Gabby is very good at getting things like that done. You can't say no to her."

"Don't remind me, Antonio. I hate to think of my little girl out there on the road."

"If it makes you feel comfortable, I'll ride with her when you're on shift."

"Not gonna happen."

"Have Shay teach her."

"Do you remember what happened when she drove ambo?"

Antonio laughed. "That girl deserved it. That's what happens when you cut off Leslie Shay."
