everyone was sitting in the living room while i laid flat on my bed, taking in everything for the last time for a while. voices were heard from the other side of my door, it being hard to distinguish real words. people were laughing and talking outside while my mind replayed one memory over and over and over again.

"dad, look what i found!" 13 year old me yelled as my dad came running towards me. "i remember writing this for you in fifth grade."
i said, holding out a letter with messy letters and small sketches, mostly hearts all over. it was titled 'happy father's day to the best dad i could ever have!' with hearts surrounding it.

"i remember this," my dad said, taking the letters from my hands with a smile. "dear dad, happy father's day. i could never find the words to describe how happy you make me. i instantly feel joy when you do the smallest things, even a smile could make me happy. you deserve so much more, sometimes i think i don't even deserve you. i don't think any other person could compare to how you treat me, you just make me feel worth something. i'm so grateful to be your daughter. from, ams" he read out loud, a big smile growing on my face.

"i still mean every word i said in that letter." i admitted, making my dads face light up.

"i love you so much, ams." my dad said, giving me a hug. i was quick to fall into his embrace, smiling through the hug.

"i love you too, dad." i said in reply, pulling away from him.

"i'm keeping this somewhere safe," he said, folding the letter and putting it in his pocket. "okay, let's finish cleaning this up. we still got a long way to go." he said, bringing us back on track.
