~~~WAQAS' POV~~~
I leaned against my car's door as I impatiently waited for Malvika to come outside. Megha had informed me that she is leaving for Manik's surgery in New York today and that too, without meeting me. Since the day we met in my office, she has refused to talk to me or attend my phone calls.
After about fifteen minutes of tossing my car keys in my hand, Malvika appeared from behind the main entrance of the building. Typing something with one hand and her eyes on her phone, she held Manik's hand in her other hand. He looked up at me with his big black eyes and gave me an ear to ear grin. I smiled back at him with tears eyes; It pained me to see that white bandage still covering half of his face. It's all my fault.
"Vikku!" He shrieked, pulling his hand out of Malvika's hand and ran towards me. I gasped as I leaped forward to catch him in case he stumbled upon something or lost his balance.
"Hey champ!" I gave him a high five and he laughed.
"Manik careful!" Malvika yelled at him before looking up at me, "tum?"
"Hey," I replied softly, standing up with Manik in my arms, as she covered the distance between us. Her face looked pale like she hasn't been sleeping lately.
"Waqas I have a flight to catch so we have to go," she said, not caring to even say 'hi'.
"So, even you are going to run?" I asked her as she tried pulling Manik away from me. He grabbed my neck so tightly like he would never let go. Malvika finally gave up and huffed.
"I am not running away Waqas. Manik Ki surgery hai," she sighed, "my house, family, business- everything is here. Where am I going to go?"
"So, why didn't you tell me?" I asked, frowning. "I don't have time to discuss that," she replied but, I didn't buy that. She groaned.
"You really want to talk about this right now? Fine! But, first keep Manik out of this," she said and I nodded. Opening my car's door, I made Manik sit inside, with my phone in his hands, and then closed the door.
"Look, I... I respect your feelings Waqas," she said and I dreaded what came next, "but, I don't feel that way for you."
I gulped the lump in my throat, staring at the ground while she continued, "Hussain is a good friend of mine and you are his cousin. You are my friend and I respect you.. A lot.. But... But, hamare beech main pyaar kahaan se aa gaya?"
Pyaar toh hamesha se tha.. Bas tumhe nazar nahi aaya.
"We are mature adults and we should understand that there is a fine line between infatuation and love-"
"Wait! You are telling me that I am just attracted towards you?" I raised my eyebrows at her and she rolled her lips inwards. I took a step towards her and she let out a soft puff of air through her mouth.
"I understand that we have been meeting up quite a lot these days so, ho jaata hai kabhi kabhi. Its completely fine Waqas," she sighed and I ran a hand through my hair. I closed my eyes tightly before kicking the front tire on my car.
Why are you denying, Malvika?
I turned around and grabbed her arms. She gasped as I jerked her toward me, "this is not temporary attraction, Malvika! Infatuation doesn't last for years."
