BACKSTORY

Average - by Sushi Soucy
▪︎ This song is backstory on how Robin feels she is looked at in the world in comparison to her siblings. There's Sam - the golden child - and Anthony - the kid who needs the most attention, leaving Robin 'average.' The lyrics express how she looks at herself and why.
  • "But now I've learned that I'm not the best. So if you need a failure, you can ask where the nearest is, I'll say, 'Look no further than your favourite lyricist.'" & "You got the skills of an idiot who got too much praise." - These lyrics express how Robin views herself in her everyday life.
  • "One bad review from someone you love, and suddenly it doesn't matter who thinks you're above average." - This line shows how much she holds herself to the standards of her family, specifically her parents.

Top of my School - by Katherine Lynn-Rose
▪︎ This is a song about the standards Robin holds herself too because she feels like it's the only thing that will keep her relevant... If she isn't the top of her school, how will she be anything?
  • "But if I hadn't earned a dollar, what would you think of your dear daughter? Would it be pity or dishonour to ensue?" - A specific reference to her parents.
  • "I'll go all out, ace every test! No doubt, outdo all the rest... Don't pout or settle for second best." - This line specifically relating to the standards she's putting herself to... Showing how tough she is to herself.

making the bed - by Olivia Rodrigo
▪︎ This song just kind of sums up how much work Robin has put into the family and how tired she is in doing so.
  • "I thought it, so I said it, took it 'cause I can... Another day pretendin' I'm older than I am. Another perfect moment that doesn't feel like mine. Another thing I forced to be a sign." - This represents the confusion she feels revolving around family. She feels like a parent to everyone.
  • "Me who's been making the bed. Pull the sheets over my head." - Same as above!!

SEASON ONE

Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now - by The Smiths
▪︎ This song plays at the very beginning of her entrance while she's getting ready for school. It has this undertone of sadness that plays beneath the 'happy family' the reader is experiencing. This shows how Robin is feeling deep down.
  • "Two lovers entwined pass me by and heaven knows I'm miserable now. I was looking for a job, and then I found a job and heaven knows I'm miserable now." - This, as well as the rest of the song, just naturally gives off this tired and dreary feeling that continues on for Robin.

Better Than Me - by The Brobecks
▪︎ This song takes place in the school when Robin is left alone at the Halloween party by herself. It gives a glimpse at her failed home and school life, as well as her anxieties around her popularity. She 'knows' everyone is 'better than her.'
  • "Yeah, everyone is better than me, I think! Throw your hands up if you agree with me." - Fairly safe explanatory as to her thoughts on herself as well what she thinks other people think... She will be really doubtful throughout the show.
