BEFORE LEAVING MOUNT Olympus, the demigods decided they'd use the many fountains to make some calls. Percy called Tyson and his mom. Annabeth called her dad. Loralai called Ricardo.

It wasn't easy, but after finding a secluded fountain, marble so purely white, Loralai tossed a drachma in, muttering her prayer to Iris and request.

The mist shimmered, rainbow glittering across the room, before it shifted into a living room. She recognized their dark leather couch, the birds melodious tweeting, shards of morning light through the windows. Ricardo was sitting on the couch, hair slicked back and garden clothes on, eating Coco Pops (his favorite discovery of the modern world, that and lawn mowers).

When he saw her, his face dropped. He carefully placed down his precious bowl of Coco Pops on the coffee table before allowing himself to freak out. Lots of: "Mi vida!" and "Are you okay?!"

Loralai smiled at the familiarity. She wished she could teleport straight into her house, sitting in the garden all day and telling Ricardo everything, but an Iris Message would have to do.

After the long, hard discussion about what had happened to her, Ricardo could barely move, merely stroking his mustache in thought. He choked on his words for a minute, as Loralai stared at the middle-aged man empathetically.

Having a half-blood as a kid wasn't easy. There, she said it. Ricardo was technically her dad.

"I'm..." He gulped, running his hands through his chocolate hair. "I'm glad you're okay, sweetheart. But I'm hurrin' there to get ya as soon as Chiron tells me you can. You 'aint stickin' 'round at Camp otherwise they'll send you on another quest."

Laughing, Loralai agreed. "Do anything new with the garden since I've been gone?"

His eyes lit up. "Just a few flower patches here and there. There's a sunset colored patch. Then I got some blue ones for 'ya, 'cos, well..."

The girl smiled. Her favorite colors. "Thanks, Ric. I miss you a lot."

The pair said their goodbyes, Loralai vowing she would make sure Ricardo was waiting by Thalia's tree the second she  got the all clear. He seemed nervous about the whole Rosa thing and Loralai being kidnapped. She was sure they'd have to work on some upgrades to those booby traps hiding around their property ASAP. For his peace of mind and hers.

Loralai was also curious to tell him about the dream she'd had about Leo Valdez. Obviously, that wasn't something you said through an Iris Message. Hey, your grandson might be alive. And I have some pretty smart friends that could help me find him easily.

Christmas was coming up. If she managed to track Leo's location  before then, even if it was just a newspaper clipping she could give him the best gift ever: a connection to his family that he thought was lost.

So she decided to wait, making a mental note to finally track down Ricardo's heritage completely. A New Year's resolution, if you will. Why did he seem so relaxed about demigods? Why does Loralai's family history and his seem so interconnected? Et cetera, et cetera.
