Chapter 69 - You Got Yourself a Deal

"What happened to the woman from the lab? The one who was working with your brother."

Tony's question froze me mid inhale nearly choking on smoke as I coughed it back up. Okay that's enough of that. Killing the cigarette I gently pushed the bottle towards Tony. I was hoping this wouldn't be the first thing but here it goes.

"She won't be coming back, Tony, ever. Do you understand?" I sternly grasped Tony's hand giving it a firm squeeze. The truth was I had hunted Katherine and her cult down carved them up one by one. Katherine I had taken my sweet time with her. She was nothing more than a drooling vegetable when I finally gave her the release of death. Killing her had brought me more pleasure then I'm sure is healthy but the bitch deserved every second. "It was my fault that Peter and Buck were endangered from them in the first place. She will never hurt anyone ever again."

Tony's shoulders sagged as if the weight of the world had been lifted. The knowledge of Katherine still being out there must have weighed heavy on his mind, the thought of which sent a sting of guilt through my heart. Add a lifetime of trauma to my list of mess ups with Tony.

"You should have come to us after you didn't have to stay away." Tony hissed, finally taking a sip from the bottle.

Another stabbing pain shot into my heart. Fuck I messed up bad. "I know I just thought by staying away I was somehow protecting you all from the shit I bring with me." The honest truth was I was guilty. I never told anyone, not even Tony about Claire's ghost. Her moving on had felt like I had lost her all over again. I was going to pay the price for resurrecting Peter. I didn't think that Claire was going to take my place instead.

"And what about Steve and Bucky? They are your soulmates! The only ones you get! What about Peter? He looks up to you like you're some damn hero. How do you think he's going to feel knowing you were not planning on coming back?! That you were just going to give up!" He was practically shouting now having stood to his full height looming over me as I remained slouched on the window sill not wanting to meet his eyes. The hurt I caused him rolling over me with every word.

"I don't know."

"No you don't because you never think! For an immortal being you're pretty damn stupid!" Hey! Now that's just rude! "You could have died in there and we would have never known just lived out our lives with a hole where you were supposed to be. Bucky and Steve would have never completed their bonds always knowing there was something missing. You should have talked to us not blindly rushed off to your death. I thought we were family." Tony's voice trailed off letting silence fall over the apartment. It felt as though someone had reached into my chest and torn it wide open.

My voice barely made it past a whisper cracking under the guilt inside "I'm sorry Tony. I love all of you deeply. I just wouldn't take the chance of any of you getting hurt when I can't be. Fat lot of good that did though we nearly lost Peter, I hurt all of you by trying to protect you. But I can promise you I will spend every second for the rest of my life making amends."

He let out a long sigh and a small twitch tugged at the corner of his lip "Just no more taking over my tower and running off on your own without our help if there is a threat we will deal with it as a team. And you have to at least give Steve and Bucky a chance, deal?"

A huge grin spread across my face "You got yourself a deal."

I stood up drawing Tony into a tight hug finally letting the stress melt from both of us. It was good to be back. And yes I still had amends to make and I needed to make a proper intro with my soulmates but I had a feeling there were many adventures and possible dangers yet to come.
