Chapter 2 - Walking Through The City Streets
Her head filled with improper thoughts of her parents rows, she decided to sneak out and try and find solace, a word which here means a light in the deathly night. Emily slowly opened her bedroom door, aware of the creaking sound which shattered the peaceful quiet. Worried about her parents waking, she tiptoed lightly down the stairs which were fortunately right beside her bedroom. As she made her way to the front door she easily turned the latch and braced herself for the cold twilight that awaited her.
She checked her phone: 1:03am; no missed calls or texts
Within mere minutes she found herself at the local park which brought back a strong sense of nostalgia. Here her parents used to bring her. She remembered when she fell off the swing. Clear as day she still remembers the brave face she put on despite the tears. She never thought she would have to put on that brave face again. Sometimes in life I guess that's all that matters; you must fall in order to get back up again and carry on. Despite the world staring down at you as you make every decision you must always get back up.
"Is it too hard to ask for someone to care for you once in a while." Again Emily spoke to the obsolete nothingness around her. The wind seemed to talk back to her through raspy whispers. Emily thought about her life, her friends, her family; "I guess they care about me" Emily whispered, "But I need someone who will go out of their way to care for me, to show me life and every intricate opportunity."
Almost as if fate had heard her talking, her phone vibrated making Emily worry whether her parents had awoken and found her missing.
1 text message: Hey, sorry 4 the late invitation but me, u and the girls have been invited to Evan's party! It's going to be gr8! I hope you can come :) - Adriana
Adriana was whom she considered as a best friend and possessed such a kind personality which was appreciated greatly. Although Adriana was there for Emily, she couldn't provide constant support due to her popularity and the constant stress of her family issues.
At times Emily was jealous of Adriana as she was by far one of the prettiest girls in the school with long, jet-black hair which fell effortlessly past her shoulders. Her eyes were constellations that could hide even the most difficult of hardship. Unfortunately she was born with a tornado in her life: her father left her mother before she was born and her mother had spiralled into the life of a drunken alcoholic. The girl had stars at her feet but her soul was lost at sea.
Emily considering the offer Adriana had just put before her, thought about how difficult it must be to be in such a predicament. With the pressure of popularity and a life looking after her mother she felt incredibly sympathetic towards Adriana, but in order to help she would have to leave her own troubles behind and that was incredulously impossible.
Thinking about the struggles of not only herself or Adriana but everyone she ventured home - a mess - torn and broken. "Everyone reaches high walls in their lives but do hurricanes always overcome the good?" She questioned. This question emulated in her mind until she got home. It was still with her as she turned the latch and crept upstairs. It lay next to her as she forced her head on the pillow and instantaneously fell asleep. And it will probably stay with her for the rest of her life. But Emily will soon have to experience the answer.
