Good Morning

Early in the morning, a time where most people are still cozily cuddled under their comforters, there was a loud knock on the door. I sat up and collected myself, glancing at the couple who was still asleep. The knock became louder and I heard a noise that made me slightly panic. I looked down at Stella and she started to kick a little and was starting to make muffled pre-crying noises. If that knock on the door woke her up, I’m going to kill whoever knocked it. I quickly scooped her up before she really starts crying and paced quickly to the door. With her balanced on one arm, I opened the door and peeked outside. My face fell, “Seriously? This early? Will you guys ever learn?”

“Well, good morning to you too!” Pontius scoffed,

“Do you have to knock so loudly?”

“You’re not going to open it if we don’t.” Isom replied with a shrug,

“Yea.” Sean added, “You’re a couch potato and you should know that.”

“I heard your brother’s in town.” Mark blurted,

“He’s knocked out cold, so not so loud.”

“Ally?” Cubbie murmured, “Where did you get that kid from?”

            “What kid?”

Pontius opened the door a little wider, “Well, shit.”

I looked down at Stella, who was already awake and her eyes flicking in different directions. “Oh…”

“Ally… Who is that?” Mark asked, “That’s a baby.”

“That’s not yours, is it?” Sean asked, “Is it?”

            “Uh oh.” Isom chimed,

“You really need to explain right now.” Pontius demanded, “Right now.”

I ushered them outside my door and quietly closed the door behind me. They were looking at me with utter puzzlement and fear. I sat at the bottom of the stairs as they climbed down past me and kept on looking down at me. I motioned them to sit down, but they refused to. So they remained standing up, too shocked and confused to do anything. “Are you going to tell me who the baby is or not? Don’t make me paternity test Ryan Harrison, kid. ” Mark got impatient,

            “Have fun with that.”

“He moved to Chicago, you dipshit.” Pontius whispered,

Mark looked down at me with guilt, “Is that true?”

I nodded microscopically and mumbled, “He left yesterday.”

            “Why Chicago?” Isom asked,

            “Job offer.”

“All the way in Chicago?” Sean asked,

“All they way.” I raised my eyebrows,

“I’m sorry, forget that I said that. Forget it.”

            “Forever?” Cubbie blurted,

“No, just until his dad retires.” I sighed,

“Okay, you’ll be fine. You two will make it.”

With the pacifier in her mouth, Stella was staring at the guys like they were gigantic rattles. A sign that she is actually pretty sociable, which is always a good sign. “Wake up, kid. You’ve got some explaining to do.” Pontius snapped,
