Chapter 19: The Truth

Ricardo P.O.V

I felt my blood froze when I heard her utter that nickname. Only one person on this entire earth calls me by that name. "Sapphire?" I whispered, not able to process that she of all people is calling me now after three years of getting a divorce. What could possibly have happen to make her desperate enough to call me of all people, at night with such panic.

"I need your help. He's going to kill me when he gets back," her voice quivering in fear as she said that. "Ok. I need you to calm down, and tell me what is happening right now?" I ask her calmly hoping that she can calm down enough to explain what is happening.

"I'm in serious trouble. I made Rufus mad and now I think he's going to kill me and Dante when he comes back!" she explains in a rush. "Alright. I'll come to your place. Give me the address," I instruct her without asking questions as she sounds like she is about to have a panic attack.

Once I write down the address she rattle off on a sticky note, I told her that I'll be there in an hour before rushing out of the bedroom. I didn't bother to change out of my shorts and plain white cotton t-shirt, and I all but ran to the front door, grabbing the keys to my Audi as that is the fastest car I own and ran to the garage.

As soon as I enter the car I start the engine and put the address that Sapphire gave in the GPS before I quickly reverse out of the garage and drove to her location. As I drove I call the police to help if there were trouble I couldn't solve on my own. The policeman that I call assures me that they will be there as soon as possible with an ambulance just incase before disconnecting the call.

While I'm driving like a maniac cutting people when I could, I couldn't help but to think what is happening with my ex-wife to make her so terrified that someone is going to kill her and this Dante person. Furthermore, why would she call me of all people instead of the police?

 I thought she doesn't care for me at all. All these thoughts ran through my head and before I know it the GPS inform that I have arrived at my destination. This apartment complex is in the middle of nowhere.

The second I am able to find parking in front of the apartment complex that looks dilapidated and deserted.

I shut of the engine got out of the car and lock it before I sprint to the apartment.

I ignored the very old looking elevator and find the stairs and began running up until I reach the highest floor, which is the fifth floor.

By the time I reach the right door it is already 8:30pm as I look at my watch. I was breathing hard from running up the stairs as fast as I could and about to knock on the door when I heard a lot bang like something loud just fall down and shouting coming from inside the apartment.

The moment I heard that I forgot about knocking and tried to open the door but of course it is locked so I did the only thing I could and that was to bust to door open myself. I put all of my body weight to force the door open and it took me five tries before the door burst open and slam against the wall with a loud boom. My shoulder is throbbing but what I see inside the medium size apartment distract me from my pain as the whole place is in utter chaos.
