CHAPTER 19: FIFTY SHADES OF GRAYSON

The Salvatore Boarding House

Natalie could feel a smile on her face as if it was to be glued on there for centuries. Three years. She's waited three years to finally have a relationship with Stefan. And now she believed she had one. Of course, she couldn't take anything for granted, seeing as she was still her and if she did something wrong her insecurities and issues would easily make her drown inside the ocean of thought in her own head.

She tried to reach out, in hope to find something that would tell her that it could be real, that he seemed serious and wasn't just looking for getting stabbed twice with a pipe. But when she reached out, nobody was there.

She wasn't sure what to think, but she knew overreacting because of his disappearance would cause the same possible reaction to her overreacting about a possible relationship. She could decide her own mind's reactions and how it would affect her.

Her mind was an ocean, but she could decide whether or not to drown.

She simply pulled her jeans and her simple blouse from the previous day on, and she was happy that they didn't seem to be that maybe-couple that ripped each other's clothes off. They just slipped them off.

But when she was tying the laces of her combat boots, Stefan entered the room, carefully, and she pulled herself up to look at him with a slight smile, as she was sure he thought she was asleep. "Hi."

"Hey," he breathed, a smile on his face as he looked at the beautiful brunette who stood up from the bed with a smile. "Sorry I left. You were sleeping and you were weirdly peaceful and Damon wanted me so..."

"Yeah, that must have been weird. I'm never peaceful," the female vampire smiled with a shrug, before glancing down as she tried to keep her cool and not smile too much. "So, why did Damon want you?"

His smile faded as the intoxication of Natalie's presence was overshadowed by his worry for one of the people he had known longest in Mystic Falls. "Oh, ehm, Elena was taken by your evil applied microbiology professor. We're gonna get her back."

Natalie's eyes widened at the thought of her sister being kidnapped by that stupidly smart guy who turned and tortured Jesse. "Oh my god, I didn't know..." she trailed off, pushing strands of hair back. "So, you won't need me?"

Even if she only meant it as a harmless question, he knew her and even if she didn't mean to get reassurance about her worth, not getting it could be harmful. And he had told her that he didn't want her to ever get hurt again. He was going to stand by that. "I'll always need you."

Her smile could simply not be contained as she looked at him, and walked closer linking her arm with his loosely, and twisting them comfortably so they could intertwine their hands as they walked forth, her quickly showing her affection with a quick touch of her head to his shoulder before they left the room.

After that stupid two hour drive to where Natalie went to school, they had finally found who had Wesley Maxfield as his legal guardian. Who she had barely met, but she remembered seeing him unconscious after finding out about Jesse's lethal vampirism.

She could hear Damon talking to him and smirked. "Pop quiz. So your girlfriend's taken by a mad scientist. Now, do you: A, get a new girlfriend; B, call the police; or C, kill someone close to the mad scientist?"

She could see him rushing away, confused at why Damon wasn't stopping him. But then he was surprised by the appearance of Natalie and Stefan standing in front of him, she having a smirk on her face, with an obvious sarcastic sweetness. "Hey, Aaron. Nice to see you. How you doing?"
