"Evil will exist in this world whether good is there to fight it or not"
~Joshua Ovenshire

I just hoped we were the good and they were the bad. I just hoped I had picked the right side. I just hoped that if I was to die fighting, surrounded by my friends, he would be the last thing I see.

I clipped my usual belt of knives to my waist and waited for instructions. That's how I started this war. The plan was simple enough, but I still had my doubts. No one questioned the captains orders and neither did I. But that didn't stop my heart from skipping every second beat and the adrenaline hormones to start kicking in. It didn't feel good, but that's what going into war felt like. Either I would kill or I would be killed. There was no in between.

"Does everyone know what they're doing?" Steve asked. I looked down at the small chip I had been handed. The other two, identical to it were given to Steve and Sam. Nat looked like the council woman whom I didn't know the name of. I just hoped she played her part well.

"So if I don't insert this chip the world ends?" Sam asked.

"No. Just the lives of millions of innocent people" I corrected.

"Thanks Em. That makes me feel a whole lot better" Sam said sarcastically. I laughed. I knew this wasn't the best time to be making jokes but I was scared. I needed to make the most of whatever safety I have left. At least I get one or two seconds of laughter.

"I bet I can deactivate my aircraft faster then you" Sam muttered in my ear.

"You're on Falcon" I muttered back. He smiled at me and winked before moving into position. Steve, Sam and I all bordered a helicopter that would drop us off at each of our planned station. After two minutes if flying Sam jumped out and ducked behind some crates. He was in position. Hill flew off and I got one last look at Sam as he loaded his two hand guns. With that it was just me and Steve.

"Emily?"

"Hmm?"

"I just..." He sighed.

"You just what?" I was curious.

"Take care?" he said. It didn't sound like a statement, more of a question.

"I'll try" I joke. The helicopter gets lower and I see my drop off point. I unbuckle myself and stand up. Before I could move any feather away he grabbed my wrist. I looked down at his hand and into his eyes. Big mistake.

"Emily please...I'm being serious. I want to see you healthy by the end of this so I can take you out on a date" he said, slowly standing out. His voice was as soft as he could go. It broke my heart. Before I knew what was happening our lips were locked in a passionate kiss.

"Promise me" he whispered, our lips still pressed together. I pulled back and cupped his face, pressing our foreheads together.

"I promise" I whispered, pecking his lips one last time and jumping out of the helicopter onto a platform and ducking behind an aircraft. I saw the helicopter and Steve take off into the sky. I turned on my earpiece and took a shaky breath, waiting for further instructions.

And they came.

Ten minutes of doing nothing I heard my earpiece crackle into life. And I heard his voice.

"Is everyone ready?" Steve asked.

"I'm in" Nat said and I heard her disconnect. The couldn't use her intercom where she was going. It would be too suspicious.

"Why the hell not?" Asked Sam. I looked over the top of the aircraft and saw too many HYDRA agents.

"Let's do this" I said. I heard a gun fire (from Sam's pistol) and that was my signal. I jumped over the top of the air craft and started my battle. Three punches and the first man was down. It took me half an hour to knock out all of the men. In three minutes more would be here. I sprinted to the edge of the platform and jumped. It wasn't that far of a fall but I still winces when I landed.

"Aircraft one secure. How does loosing taste Emily?" Sam sniggered into his earpiece. Shit, he won.

"Shut up" I snarled taking my anger out on the agent In Front of me. How could he have possibly done that already? It must be those stupid wings of his.

"Both of you shut up and focus on the mission" Steve commanded. He then quickly changed the topic with, "Sam I need a lift".

I rolled my eyes and dodged a bullet that was one millisecond away from doing into my head. Three seconds later the agent who fired it was dead at my feet. He was the final obstacle. I boarded the aircraft and found my way to the control centre at the centre. I found it strange how I didn't come across a single person, but I shook it off.

I inserted the chip into it's place in the second aircraft and programmed it in. The red light flashed green and the chip let out a small 'beep'. In under a minute the aircraft was locked on and secure.

"Aircraft two is secure" I muttered in my earpiece.

"Nice job E--" whatever Maria was saying I couldn't hear anymore. I felt a blinding pain in my stomach and stumbled back. I swear I blacked out for one second. I was on the ground and by body was aching. I blinked and the dizziness went away. I looked up and there he was, standing in front of me. It was him. The Winter Soldier was standing over me.  He pulled back his metal arm ready to punch again. Before he got that chance I kicked him hard with both legs in the stomach.

"Steve! He's here!" I yell into my earpiece as I scramble ungracefully into my feet and ready myself for hand to hand combat. Now It made seance that there was no agents. Because their biggest weapon was waiting for me inside.

It wasn't a fair fight.

I never stood a chance.

Not against him.

I fell exhausted after five minutes. Not one of my attacks did anything other then make him more determined. I collapsed to the ground, panting heavily. I looked up, my hair falling into my face. The Winter Soldier looked down at me coldly before breaking my leg. I screamed in agony and let myself fall. I knew I was going to die. Then I heard him speak in Russian.

"девушка вниз . Меня есть более важные вещи, чтобы сделать то справиться женщину" which I know translated roughly to, 'the girl is down. I have more important things to do then handle a woman' before walking off.

"EMILY!!" I heard Steve scream my name into his earpiece. I lifted my head off the ground and pressed the button.

"I'm here but I'm down" I panted.

"I'm sending Sam to pick you up. Thank you. You've done well soldier" he said. I nodded and looked up at the third aircraft lifting up.

"I'm sorry Steve" I muttered, pushing myself up and holding my injured leg,
"you're on your own"
