(Y/N) POV: He did it! He actually kissed me! I felt like this one was better than the last! In my mind, it was our "first kiss." After we finished with our "business" Josh looked at me some more.
"God!" He said incredulously. I started to panic.
"What?!?!?!?!" I asked, terrified of what mistake that I surely made.
"You're so beautiful." He said, eyes not leaving mine. I felt safer again with him. Damn! I just couldn't make up my mind!
"No I'm not!" I said, looking at my feet. He grabbed my hands.
"You better believe it!" He said, without hesitation. I smiled, embarrassed. He noticed my blush. "Can't you take a compliment?" He asked, finding my eyes again. I could get lost in those protective grey eyes.
"Yeah, but I'm not good at it." I said shyly.
And then the pain beyond pain came. I screamed in horror, looking at my shoulders. They were bleeding through the bandages, wide open under them. Infected. By what? I don't think I'll ever truly know. Maybe I just wasn't clean enough for the wound, maybe Josh had gotten some other human blood in them from his claws. I don't know.
Josh's POV: The scream will forever haunt me. (Y/N) looked at me in agonizing pain. I didn't know what to do or say. She talked first.
"Bag... Anti- ugh!!! Antibiotics!!!" Was all that she could get out. I scrambled to her bag, looking through it, finally finding the antibiotics! I opened the bottle and put some on each of the wounds. (Y/N) couldn't stop screaming from the pain. I tried to calm her.
"Shhhshhhshhh. It's ok. It'll be ok. Let me get some more on. Calm down. Deep breaths (Y/N)! There ya go." She began to breathe deeply. She was loosing a lot of blood. The antibiotics weren't working.
"Needle... Thread... In bag... Do you know how to sew?" She asked in anticipation.
"Yes." Was my short answer. I ran over to the bag again and found the needle and thread. I ran back over to her.
"Shhhhshhhhshhhh. Calm down. Don't worry, the pain will be over soon, I promise." I kept calming her. I put the needle in her skin, (Y/N) still yelling as I did.
"It hurts so much Josh! Help me please!" She kept panicking.
"Shhhshhhshhh. I know it hurts. Let me help, please stop moving." I looked her in the eyes, she nodded. She was shaking a little. I kept sewing her skin slowly. I finished and went to the other arm. After I finished, it looked like a non-professional had given her stitches, which was the case. She still cried in pain as I put more antibiotics on her shoulders.
"Josh? Is it better?" She whimpered at me.
"Yes, the bleeding is stopping." I told her, caressing her hair. She slowed her breathing. She was falling asleep again. She was hungry and had lost a lot of blood. I kept rolling my fingers over her arms, she got cute goosebumps when I did. I kept doing it, it seemed to relax her, as she rolled off to sleep.
"Man, half the time I've known you, you were sleeping!" I whispered to no one in particular. I knew that she was tired from hunting the Makkapitew. She didn't sleep because of it. And now that she had me, she was the one who was protected. She could sleep knowing that she had someone to protect her.
I kissed her on the forehead, telling her the story about how we met. She smiled through some of it, which told me that she could hear me in her sleep. I touched her cheek and smiled.
"Don't worry. I'm here to help you. Please don't be afraid of me." I whispered lightly in her ear. She scooted closer to me after I said that. I smiled, and decided to tell her a story.
"The two different creatures began to understand each other as they grew closer together." I continued to do this, (Y/N) got more goosebumps on her arms. She would snuggle up further the more I talked to her.
I decided to continue making the deer meat when (Y/N) woke up. She looked like someone had taken her sole. Then tried to put it back in the bags under her eyes!
"I don't feel so good." (Y/N) complained.
"You don't look it either." I teased her. She rolled her eyes.
"You would know best!" She fired back.
"Ooooo shots fired!" I said dramatically. She giggled.
"I made some deer meat stew." I offered her a little bowl filled with it. She tried to grab it but winced from the pain. She rubbed her shoulders some more.
(Y/N) POV: I don't remember a lot after the "surgery" on my shoulders . Josh tried to be nice and made me some stew. I couldn't grab it of course because my damn shoulders!
"Here! Don't worry (Y/N). I got it." Josh told me and fed me the stew. I felt like a stupid person because I couldn't even pick up a damn bowl!
"Mmmmm. That's pretty good." I closed my eyes as he fed me the warm stew. I finished it quickly of course because I hadn't eaten in like a day! And then I realized neither had Josh.
"You must be starving too!" I sat up quickly and regretted it. I wasn't strong enough yet. I passed out again from the pure exhaustion.
