Friends: maka, soul, kid (likes to tease him), the rest of the gang, justin law, maka's dad, Spence (another oc boy who is her meister and bff)
I'd try to stay clear from the canon characters, then again, they're super awesome so can't blame you :p But you didn't make a canon character her boyfriend so I like that.
Past: ever since her mom and dad went away she had to take care of mac (or little mac) until she made it to the academy and was ambush of some evil people. Her sister died in the process. Thats where she met the gang. The academy put a funeral for her little sister and that's where she met Spencer (or spence to her). Kid's dad invited her to be a student which she accepted just to get research on where her parents are. She doesnt tell the gang not even her bff (spence) that shes part witch only the part that shes part miester and weapon.
Pretty cool back story ;3
Overall:
I wouldn't make any interaction with cannon characters. But if you're writing a fan fiction about it then that'd be fine XD
Be a little bit more specific and that's pretty much it.
