A Thousand Years (Part Three)

Chapter Eight

“Hey, what are you doing?” Cassie’s voice came through the speaker.

“Sitting with my mom, drinking some wine. You?” Rachael got up and went on the deck.

She heard Aaron in the background,“Can we come over?” 

“Yeah of course. Marie is here, sleeping, so be quiet when you come in.” Rachael knew they were almost here.

“Okay.” Cassie hung up.

Rachael walked back in the kitchen and closed the sliding door behind her. Laura had moved to the stove, stirring the noodles in the pot. Rachael smiled, she loved when her mom cooked spaghetti for dinner. As she was telling her mom Cassie and Aaron were on their way she heard the front door close. They walked into the kitchen, with Marie behind them, who walked over to the island and sat down.

“Hey guys, this is Marie, Maxx’s girlfriend.” Rachael said waving her hand in front of Marie.

“Hey, It’s nice to meet you.” Both Cassie and Aaron said together. 

Laura drained the pasta and turned around, “Dinners done.” 

They all grabbed plates and got food, and some drinks, then went to the dining room table and sat down. 

“So, are you and Tim ready for the competition this weekend?” Cassie asked Rachael.

Rachael shook her head, “Yeah we are. Since tomorrow’s Friday we decided to do our usual half day, so we don’t over practice.” 

“Do you mind if I stay, to watch?” Marie asked.

Rachael smiled, “Of course.”

When they were all done eating Rachael helped her mom clean up and put the left over’s away. Everyone else went out on the deck with a bowl of ice cream. Rachael made a rule for herself that she couldn’t have sweets two days before and until after the competition. Marie walked in and put her bowl in the dishwasher. 

“Your mom made a lot of food.” she commented, looking at the containers Rachael was about to put in the fridge. 

Rachael laughed, “Yeah, she usually does. We never know how many people will actually be joining us for dinner. Cassie and Aaron called about five minutes when they showed up.” 

“Oh. Sounds reasonable.” Marie sat down and pulled out her phone. 

“Yeah. I miss Cody too.” Rachael sat next to her, smiling at her.

Marie smiled back, “How did you know?”

“Because I do the same thing. I wish I could be with him.”

“That would be nice, maybe one day they will take both of us with them.” 

Rachael laughed, “That would be nice.”

Cassie and Aaron walked in and put their bowls in the dishwasher, then stood on the other side of the island. They all stayed there a while talking, Marie telling them things about her. Around ten Rachael decide to go to bed. 

The next morning Rachael’s alarm went off and she got up and took a shower. When she was done she dressed in get practice clothes. When she got downstairs Sam was sitting on the couch rubbing her feet again. She laughed to herself and got the stuff out of the hall closet again. When Sam saw her walking towards her with it she smiled.
