“Are you ready?” Cody grabbed Rachael’s hand as they walked into the doctors office.

She smiled at him, “Yeah, I’m excited to know.”

Rachael walked up to the check-in desk and talked to the lady behind the desk for a minute, while Cody went to sit down. When Rachael walked over to Cody and sat down he reached over and took her hand back into his. They waited for a while until the nurse called her name.

“Okay, are we ready to find out the sex of this baby?” Rachael’s doctor laughed as she walked into the room.

“Yes we are” Cody smiled.

Rachael laid back on the table and Cody walked to the other side, grabbing her hand. Her doctor stared at the screen for a moment.

“Ah, there we go,” she pointed, “can you see the head there?”

They both shook their heads, “Yeah.”

Her doctor looked closer, “Well, there is it, are you ready to know?”

Cody squeezed Rachael’s hand a little tighter, “Yeah we are.”

“It’s…. a boy. See his little thing?” she pointed at the screen again.

Rachael turned to look at Cody and he leaned down to kiss her.

When they got home everyone was in the living room, waiting for them. Sam got up and walked to Rachael’s side when they walked into the room. Everyone looked up, and waited.

Rachael cleared her throat, “before we tell you, I want everyone to close their eyes. When I ask what you think it is, I want you to raise your hands. This includes you Sam, go take a seat.”

Sam walked back to Austin and sat down. Everyone closed their eyes and Rachael asked for hands, if they thought it was a boy. Dan, Maxx, Marie, Austin, and Chris raised their hands. Cody continued to paint with body paint on Rachael’s stomach, in blue paint, that said ‘I’m a boy!” Rachael then asked who thought is was a girl and other set of hands went up.

Cody stood back up and put the paint down and took her hand. Rachael laughed and told everyone to open their eyes. When they did, everyone who  thought it was a boy jumped up and yelled. They all got up to hug her, and Cody.

“I’m so happy for you guys,” her mom said as she hugged her.

“Thank you mom, I’m nervous though..” Rachael whispered back.

Her mom squeezed her hand, “It’s all going to be okay.”

Rachael was sitting out in the lawn, staring at nothing when Sam came out and sat next to her. They sat in silence for a while, Sam knowing when Rachael was ready, she’d talk. After about ten minutes Rachael leaned her head onto Sam’s shoulder and sighed. Sam out her arm around Rachael.

“Are you scared?” Rachael whispered.

“Terrified. But I feel better knowing we are in this together.” Sam whispered back.

A few hours later Rachael walked into her room and Cody looked up from his laptop. She climbed into bed and curled up into his side. He wrapped his arm around her shoulder, pulling her closer. He closed his laptop and set it on the table next to him. Rachael leaned up and kissed him.
