Chapter 20: Finishing
I had expected a text from Angel so I was pretty surprised. He wants to meet me! I had to decline since my mom really needed me for something. I felt bad. I texted him back asking him what he needed, and if everything was okay. He replies yes, and that he just felt like hanging out. I knew he was subtly lying, but I didn't want to bother questioning him about it.
~~~~~~
I went back to university on Monday hoping to see Angel there, but he wasn't. I can't say I'm surprised at this point.
"Hey Alice." Someone said. I knew the voice.
"Hey Jess." I replied.
He sat down next to me on the lunch table. "Alice are you okay?"
"I am. I am waiting for Samantha."
"Forget about him."
His words caught me off guard. Was I that obvious that everyone can see it?
"His mother isn't well. I can't just forget about him." I replied slightly aggravated.
"Well aside from that, you need to move on."
"You mean like you? You've been hung up over the whole breakup between us." I knew I was harsh, but I was beyond annoyed at this point.
"I'm not over you because you actually care unlike him." He stares at me sternly. "Alice, do you actually think he will love you like I do?"
"I don't know. We haven't progressed."
"And you never will."
"Go away, and don't speak to me." I turned my head away.
"Stop living in a fantasy. There are people that are openly willing to love you like you deserved to be loved."
"Stop it." I stood up, and left. I didn't like the reality of it. Jesse was right.
~~~~~~
On the third day of school, Angel was still not here. I had gotten no text messages from him either. I didn't want to be the first to text just because I felt I would look desperate.
I was worried sick, but I couldn't do it. I couldn't reach out. I felt he had a reason to be gone so I will wait patiently until he is back.
"Hey Alice." Samantha approaches me. "You okay? Still looking for him?"
"Yeah. I am worried."
"Go visit him. It wouldn't hurt." She smiles, and pats my back.
"I guess you are right."
~~~~~~
When I had gotten the chance, I found myself knocking on his door. He opens it, and smiles slightly.
"Hey Alice."
"Why haven't you been in school?"
"I got kicked out due to my insignificant GPA." He looked bummed.
"Can't you do some-"
"Let's not talk about it. I know I've failed my mother's wishes."
"No you didn't. You failed your own. Your mother wouldn't have cared, and you know it."
He stared at me with no words slipping. His eyes looked sad, and in need of comfort. I went to hug him. I was nervous, and scared to, but my instincts told me I needed to. I can smell his scent, and feel his body. I suddenly felt his arms around me as he pulls me in for a light hug. I wished his hugs were tighter, but I knew Angel wasn't the type to give overbearing hugs.
