I closed the text, pushing the phone back into my pocket.

"You're not going through with it?" Whitney asked, hitching the backpack higher on her shoulders.

I shook my head, fixing the bag on my own shoulders.

"Not yet." She nodded in understanding, stopping in front of three large boulders.

"They should be here any moment. We'll start setting them up." I nodded, unzipping the bag and taking out the nets we had fixed a couple days ago.

"Hey." Colton greeted, giving me a kiss on the cheek. I smiled at him, kissing him back.

"Hi." I said, passing the end of the net to him. He lead me to the first boulder, sliding it under it, and stretching it out so it covered the distance.

I was surprised he was able to lift it.

"Saxon's pack was spotted a few miles away from here." Vincent called out to Colton. He sighed, rubbing his eyes tiredly and nodding.

"Get Vance and Nate to have a look." Vin nodded, looking like he was mind linking.

"What do you think he'll do this time?" I asked Colton, leaning on the rock. He shrugged his shoulders, sighing.

"I have no idea. I don't think he's after you again. I know Saxon. He doesn't make the same mistake twice."

"What's with you two? Bad history?" I asked.

He nodded. "Something like that." I stayed quiet, knowing he probably didn't want to talk about it. "My mom called." He said, walking away from Vincent and Whitney.

I followed him, shoving my hands in my back pockets.

"And?" I asked.

"She wants to have a get together." I nodded my head. "For you." I furrowed my eyebrows.

"Why me?"

"Because you're my mate."

"What did you tell her?" I asked.

"I told her no. I couldn't care less what she wants."

Oh wait, I remember this. It was when-

"Remember when you cut your nose?" I nodded my head. "That's the day she called."

...Stole the words right out of my mind.

"So it was a while ago." I stated, and he nodded. "I'm not going to call you irrational and say you're being a child, if that's what you want to hear." I said.

"Why would I want to hear that?" He asked.

"Usually, people want a bit of a push in a direction. Get a second opinion." I explained. He nodded.

"And what do you think?" I smiled.

"I think what you're doing is the right decision. If you're not ready to face her, then don't. It's as simple as that. Don't agree to it just because she's your mother."

"You're saying the complete opposite of what normal people would say." He said, chuckling softly.

"I guess I'm not normal." I shrugged. He grinned, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me to him.
