Losing You

To the friend who I've lost,

I never thought it would be easy, but didn't know how hard,
Losing what we had would be and now I'm seeing stars.
Whiplash has me by the chokehold and I'm giving in
'Cause what's the point when you try so hard
But you never really win?

'Cause shooting stars can't get too far without another half,
And I can't focus on myself when I can't hear your laugh.
Good ideas will come and go but this was more than that
I see your face in everything, you were my landing mat.

But stars won't shine without darkness
And scars can't heal without pain.
You took my hand and led me straight into the sweet refrain.

Those stars were nothing more than dust
And some scars never fade.
So who was I to believe you,
To believe that you'd have stayed

We were lost before we'd begun,
We could've been brighter than the sun,
You and I, we could fly
But now we're nothing, and as hard as I try
I can't pick out where we went wrong,
What we had was like a song.

But nothing lasts forever
And even the greatest things end
You asked, "Any final words?"

So I say goodbye, my friend.

Goodbye to all the sorrow, the worry and the pain,
Goodbye to all the broken hearts who left me in the rain.
Goodbye to blaming myself for this, because it really wasn't me,
Goodbye to waiting up for you, it's time for me to leave.

So losing you ruined me.
But it also helped me forget,
Let go of all the sadness, the anger, and regret.
I won't say I didn't love you,
Or that I still do.

But I guess that's just a part...
A part of losing you.
