Expect The Unexpected

Chapter 17

"Flynn's gonna be here in less than 10 minutes!" I call downstairs to Kyle. I just finished placing the final touches on the nursery. 

We chose an elephant theme; grey walls with the continents outlined, a chevron rug and the Brooks Pottery Barn bedding. There's a glider in the corner by the window; next to the glider there's a a dresser with a changing table on top of it. The crib is up against the wall facing the dresser. 

In the middle of the room there's an elephant chair with a few stuffed animals set on top of it. Around the room there are a few different pictures; one of them being former teammate, Erin McLeod's elephant drawing. It completes the room being over the crib. 

"Just pulled up!" Kyle calls from downstairs. 

I take a quick check around the room to make sure everything is in place for Flynn and then head downstairs. I make it downstairs right as the door bell rings. 

"Hey Janice" Kyle says as he answers the door. 

"Hi guys, are you ready for tonight?"

"I think so" I reply as she passes Flynn off to me.

"I'll be back around 3 tomorrow. Call me if you need anything!" Janice says as she turns around to leave.

"Bye bye" Flynn says with a wave.

"Bye Flynn" Janice says with a smile. 

I put Flynn down and he start toddling towards the kitchen. When he makes it to the kitchen he sees Lilo in her crate. 

"Doggy" He says pointing his chubby little finger at her. 

"Here let's go see doggy." I say as I pick him up. 

Kyle opens the crate and Lilo comes out and jumps on my leg. Flynn is laughing at her. 

The three of us sit on the floor and play with Lilo for a good hour. Flynn smiling and laughing the whole time.

"Ri the mac and cheese is done." Kyle says from the kitchen. 

"Flynn want some mac and cheese?" I ask him. He nods his head enthusiastically.

I pick up Flynn, go to the sink to wash our hands and then put him in his high chair that's at the end of the table. I put on his bib in case he spills the milk or mac and cheese on himself. 

Kyle places a bowls of mac and cheese in front of us all; Flynn having a smaller portion.

"Do we give him a spoon and let him eat it himself?" Kyle asks.

"Let's try that. If it's not working we can help him."

Flynn picks up the spoon and gets a tiny spoonful of mac and cheese on it. Surprisingly he is able to feed himself. 

"Do you want to take him up for a bath and I'll clean up?" Kyle asks after we finish eating. 

"After the bath, we can come down here and play with a some toys then head to bed."

"Sounds good." He says as I pick Flynn up from his high chair. 

I make a silly face at him and he laughs as we're heading up the stairs. I set him down on the bathroom floor and start running the water to make sure it's not too cold or too hot. When it reaches the perfect temperature, I undress him and put a few bath toys in the tub. 

Flynn gets excited when he notices the whale that's on the water spout from the wall. He grabs the boat thats floating around and splashes it in the water, getting me soaked in the process. We both laugh as I make boat noises as he moves the boat around the water.
