Chapter 9: Brian

"And one time, he was picking his nose. Then he didn't realize there was a cord on the ground and tripped on it. His finger got stuck in his nose and we had to go to the doctor to have them remove it!" Mary and I laughed. I looked over at Alex, and he seemed quite pissed.

"So he could only breath through one nose hole for some time?" I asked as Mary nodded. I bursted out laughing again and rolled around in my chair, clutching my sides. Tears were coming out of my eyes. Mary had spent about two hours telling me all these funny stories about Alec when he was little. Alec himself had looked really annoyed, but it was funny and I would have more things to tease him about.

"Alright, well. I should be getting ready for bed now." Mary said and got up with her dishes. I got up with her as well and carried my plates and utensils.

"Me too. I'll wash the dishes." I told her. She smiled and said 'thank you' before going to her room.

I felt the cold water rush into my open palms. I shivered from the sudden contact, then picked up the first plate. I heard Mary's door open, and she walked out of her room. Her face was makeup-free, so she probably went to wash her face. She climbed the stairs and towards Alec's room. There was some shuffling and a bit of yelling upstairs, so I finished the dishes quick and wiped my hands.

"Brianna, sorry to cause you all the trouble. I need to ask you another favor." Mary said, coming up behind me. "Sure," I replied and faced her.

"Alec seems to be upset. I'm guessing that it's because of me telling you all those stories, but he wouldn't listen to anything I said. I think he'll listen to you, though. So could you go and talk to him and make sure he's alright?" She asked. I nodded and headed to Alec's room.

When I got there I knocked on the door, getting a grunt as a response. I knocked again, a little harder this time.

"Go away Mom, I don't feel like talking to you at the moment." He said.

"It's me, Alec." I replied gently.

"Oh. Come in." His voice was a little more calmer and softer than before. I smiled when I thought about the fact that he didn't even want his mom to be there, but he still wanted me to be there. I opened the door slowly and closed it behind me. Alec was laying on his bed with the front of his head buried in his pillow. I sat on the side of his bed, making it sink down a bit.

"Are you upset because Mary told me all those stories?" I asked.

"Well... It's embarrassing, wouldn't you feel that way too if your mom did that?" Alec looked up from his bed and lifted himself off. He crawled over to me and dragged me under the covers. I stayed there in his arms.

"I'm sorry." I finally said.

"I'll forgive both you and Mom if you kiss me." He replied, brushing his fingers through my hair. I was lying in his embrace.

"Mmmmmmm." I tapped my chin to make it seem as if I was thinking really hard. "Fine." I said.

Alec pulled my head a little closer to his, then connected lips. My eyes fluttered closed, and I returned the kiss. He bit on my bottom lip, so I parted my lips just a bit. He slipped in and explored the inside of my mouth. We broke the kiss when we were breathless. I was panting again. "I need to go to Mary." I whispered and got off his bed.

"Brianna! Were you okay?" Mary asked, looking very worried. I nodded. "Alec was upset, but he said that he forgives us."

"Why was he upset?"

"He was embarrassed, I think. He didn't really say anything about that though."

"Ok, thank you so much. I'm going to go to sleep now." Mary yawned, pointing to her room.
