    It hurt.
It hurt when she pulled away. She had looked confused, as if she weren't expecting to see me. Maybe that was just the effects of the akumatisation, but I brushed it off anyway. Running through the corridors, I bolted out the back gate to detransform, Plagg appearing once again in front of me.
"Huh, so Ladybug can fall to the effects of the akuma. Interesting. Better watch out yourself Adrien," Plagg drawled in his usually careless voice, diving at the slice of cheese I held for him.
"Quiet Plagg, I have to return to the ball to check up on her."

"So, without further adue, we are going to restart. Get a partner everyone!" Principal Damocles announced, almost awkwardly, as if he was nervous about this.
The lights had been dimmed again, and the gymnasium had been transformed back to its former party glory, a sea of students rushing to obey orders. A calming waltz began to play over the speakers. We're they just trying to get the students feeling embarrassed or what?
"Hey there, stranger." A twinkling voice called out, tapping me on the shoulder. With a start, I remembered the mask upon my face that concealed my identity well. "Hi," I smiled, turning to meet her again. Her dress was no less stunning that what is was before, and I couldn't help but feel happy for her.
But then and again, why wouldn't I feel happy for the girl with the midnight blue hair and sparkling azure eyes?
Why wouldn't I feel happy for the one and only Ladybug?
I bowed stretched out my hand. "May I have this dance?"
Marinette blushed, flustered at my proposal. (A/N: As a metaphor guys!!! They're only 16!)
I grinned at her. "The headmaster requests it to be done, and I'm afraid I don't see anyone else willing to be my partner. I'm sure the Angel wouldn't mind, now would she?" I teased, smoothing out my words in persuasion. I knew it was almost cruel of me to keep my identity, but it was pretty fun to just be someone else for the night, and keep her guessing.
She blushed harder — if it were possible. "Well how could I say no to such a gentleman?"
We wander over to the dance floor, and I take the lead.

    "Hey, erm, Stranger?"
"Mh hm?" I lazily blinked open an eyelid, enjoying how close my body was next to hers.
"Don't you have anyone else to flirt with?"
I pulled back, and blinked at her. Then a smile came over my face. "Yeah, I've got a whole bunch of people lined up in queue. In fact, I wrote it all down on this invisible sheet of paper in front of me. Oh look, here we have your opponents that are also desperately vying for my eternal and undying love. Their names are Me, Myself and I — although I don't think they'll get that far, though Ms. Nobody's a real stunner, and—"
Before I could get any further, her lips crashed into mine. Sparks, heat and a strange curl of satisfaction ran through me at her touch, but all too soon, she pulled away. Her eyes were wide as she realised what she'd done, and I couldn't help but smirk through the blush that was reddening madly on my cheeks. "Shush shush kitty cat, I get it." She said, her voice slightly gasping as she recovered from her mini-shock, but it was enough to make me lean in again.
"Sorry." She tilted her head back away from mine. Then a thin, delicate pointer booped me on my nose, her fingertip having enough power to push me all the way back. "Don't be naughty."
The corners of my lips twitched, "aw, why? Is LB feeling shy?"
Bad idea. She suddenly froze up, her eyes growing wider than before. "LB? But..."
Just then, the principal's voice came booming over the speakers, cutting her and my own words off, saving me from the turmoil that I had fallen into.
"As a tradition of College François Dupont, we will be commencing to the part of the dance that involves switching in partners. If you are on the dance floor, please make your way into a circle and find a partner. The students on the outside of the ring will be moving one to the left, after every song. The ones on the inside will eventually alternate after every announcement or signal made by myself. Please enjoy the night, and let the festivities begin!"
The girls were all moving, but I didn't want to leave Marinette. With clear reluctance, she miserably, stepped across to the next person (Ivan) before in a split-second descision, I grabbed her hand and pulled her back before leading the next girl, Mylene, across towards Ivan from behind.
Marinette turned back to me with a glare, but if was more of a playful look rather than a hateful one. "You naughty cat!" She smiled, seeming to shake off my earlier comment on my choice of nicknaming her.
    I internally sighed in relief.
You are such an idiot Adrien. Seriously, out of all the times you could happen to for—
    "You two-faced snake!"
    Heads turned.
    And there was Chloe.
Marinette in front of me sighed, and suddenly seemed so much more tired. Chloe was really starting to toe the line.
"Chloe. What do you want now? You've already killed my dolls, ruined my dress and called me a faker. Do you seriously not have any pride?" She drawled, well and truly fed up with the other girl.
The blonde had her face scrunched up in rage, glaring with a look that could kill. She marched up to Marinette and got up in her face, then shoved a well-manicured nail into her chest. "I," she started, heaving with breaths, "want you, to back off Adrien. And I want you to back off NOW." she screeched.
"Deal with it princess, I'm not even touching him."
"Well... ITS AN ORDER!!" Chloe screamed, rage clouding her features and her decisions.
"I don't want to know how you boss everyone around but I'm not your servant, Chloe. If I want to leave, then that's my choice, not yours. And right now, I'm pretty happy with where I'm standing."
For a second she just struggled to maintain her breathing. Chloe seemed to be trying her hardest to swallow her fury down. "That. Is. Outrageous." She spat, gritting out the only words she could in this state of hers.
Marinette sighed. "Chloe. I'm trying my best to be nice here. All I ask of you is one time. One night, where I can finally live out my life without any of your crap. One night where I can enjoy myself. One night, where I dont have to deal with your drama. Please."
Suddenly, Chloe stopped. Her eyes cast down. Something dulled in her eyes, her rage fleeting from her and draining out, washed out by Marinette's plea.
"Fine."
I blinked, and watched as Marinette took a retake. "What?"
But before she could get a reply, Chloe turned her back and drifted off, back into the crowds.
However, no-one heard her parting words.
"I'll be back. Marinette, you'll regret ever crossing me."

🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞🐞

I had my arms around her small form, trying to offer comfort and erase the little crease between her eyebrows.
    "Hey, umm... Marinette,"
"Yes?" she raises her head, staring into my eyes.
"Would you like to-" I never got finish my sentence for the speakers interrupt, for the fourth time tonight in one of our special moments! Will I ever get enough peace and quiet to ever tell her anything?
"Please excuse me for this interruption..." A spotlight flashes up onto the stage where Principal Damocles was shown in a black tux and microphone, seeming to have tried his best to look smart and professional. Unfortunately, the students seemed to take no notice. He cleared his throat. "May I have your attention please!"
The chatter slowly started to fade out, but the majority was still enjoying their social interactions. "Students!" He boomed.
That got everyone's attention, fast. The hall instantly silenced. "Thank you."
He cleared his throat again, preparing for his upcoming speech. "Tonight, you may have noticed that there has been a voting box at the back of the hall. Several students have picked their entries, and voted for the best-dresses individuals in this year's dance, themed with Ladybug and Chat Noir. After countless tallying and sorting through all the voting slips, we have all come to a conclusion. This year's best-dressed male individual goes to..."
"Adrien!" His eyes peeling through the crowds and then finally landing on me. I felt an urge to point to myself in confusion, but I held it down. He had clearly announced me because the crowd had begun to clear a narrow isle down the centre of the gym. All eyes were on me. I blushed and stepped forward, away from Marinette and jumped up one step at a time up onto the stage. Up until now, I didn't realise how many people there actually were. I found myself searching for Marinette in the dark mass of kids. I was used to all the popularity, but I honestly didn't think I'd actually make it. Plus, usually it was only the photographer who would examine me this closely, but this time, I could feel all the eyes burning into me. All I wanted was to get his over and done with. Madame Bustier came over and shook me by the hand. "Congratulations," she said, smiling warmly. "Thanks." I replied.

And that was when the lights shut down.

I know, this chapter is kinda short but it does have a couple of Adrienette moments in it. I'm almost done on the next chapter. Do you like it? Comments please!😊😸
