Taylor's POV

I never want what just happened to happen again, and I'm going to do my best to make sure this was a one time event.

I don't think I could even begin to describe how relieved I was when I walked through the library doors and saw her standing there talking to Lily. As I turn to look over at Amara, her gaze is firmly fixed on the road and I concentrate on getting us to a park just by the library.

We're going to talk about everything and I'm determined to show her that she's not going through this stuff on her own. She has an entire group of people who love her and would do anything for her, yet she still feels that no one cares about her.

Slowing down the car, I pull over to the basically empty parking lot and park. Unbuckling my seat belt, I look over and our eyes meet. Neither of us say anything.. It's basically just a stare off until I decide to start the conversation.

"Amara, I'm not mad at you or upset or disappointed or anything. Just know that".

As a response she nods and looks down at her feet. I decide to keep talking.

"It's hurting me to see you this upset and this frustrated. I wish I could fix the problems in Syria and with your dad but quite frankly, you and I both know I can't. What I can do and will continue to do is be there for you while you figure everything out. You hate not knowing everything and being wrong but sadly, that's something that's bound to happen to everyone. You need to accept that you are going to make mistakes and then learn from them and make new ones. This is how life works. No one is perfect. No one".

She glances up at me with this look of pure sadness and I hug her. Looking up at me she asks if her dad is still being deported and smiling, I pull from my bag the contract with Maxine's signature. She takes one look at it before sighing in just sheer utter relief. She stares at me for a minute before her expression changes once again and I see her get more defensive.

"Taylor.. I..well.. My dad is still always going to be my dad and my mom will always be my mom. That's not going to change".

She crosses her arms and looks at me as I try to figure out why she said what she just did.

Ah.. Maxine said that small part about legal guardianship and now she thinks that this was all some trap.. I always forget that she has no idea about the extent of this whole fostering thing and Maxine had absolutely no right to say that to her. The reason why she ran away is becoming a lot clearer. I soften my voice as she shifts in her seat; clearly uncomfortable.

"I will never replace your parents and I'm not even going to try to. Think of this as a crazy living arrangement until your dad is cleared.. I'm your crazy older sister/aunt type thing that looks after you while your parents aren't home.."

She laughs at this and I laugh too.

"So Taylor you're basically Aunt Becky?"

I look at her astonished as she cracks up laughing..She was definitely  expecting this reaction"

"Amara.. How..do you.. Know about?.."

She shoots me a smirk and cuts me off.

"Taylorrrrr. Taylor, Taylor, Taylor... I have this thing called a computer and on this computer there's this amazing thing called Google!! Maybe you've heard of it?

She bats her eyes at me as I roll mine at her. Switching the topic to the cats, I start up the car and head home with a now extremely excitable six year old.

I knew this conversation with the fostering thing was going to come up sometime and I'm honestly glad we had it. I just want to sleep at this point.. Today was exhausting to say the least.
