This proposed film would have used paper cut-out animation to tell the traditional tale, but with a much finer and more delicate Asian style than that earlier short. At one point, Mickey Mouse was considered to be included in the plot.

I dunno this sounds like a cute idea BUT the original is weird: An Emperor who prefers the tinkling of a bejeweled mechanical bird to the song of a real nightingale. When the Emperor is near death, the nightingale's song restores his health. Plus it was a fairy tale by Hans Christen Anderson.
Wonder what Disney would have done differently. *Think Face*
