What Do I Write About?
Every character is integral to the story in some way. It could be a big way, it could be a small way. Maybe without that character, the world would plummet into darkness and evil would reign supreme. Or maybe their loss would be insignificant and the fandom wouldn't see any major changes.
Picture this: A world in which your favorite character(s) don't exist. Maybe they died, maybe they just decided to take an indefinite vacation, or maybe they were never born at all. How would the fandom look different in this alternate universe? Would Voldemort have taken over, terrorizing Muggles and wizardkind alike? Would Rick Grimes be a totally different man if he'd lost his son Carl? Take a moment to think about what what each character means to your fandom of choice and then evaluate what that fandom would look like if they were just...gone - and what that loss would mean for the ones left behind.
We're calling on all fanfiction writers to show off their writing chops by painting a picture of what a character truly means to the harmony of their fandom.
All fandoms welcome. Stories should be no longer than 10,000 words.
Things to Consider
• Pay attention to your grammar and spelling to make sure that your story is understandable and accessible. Format your story using spaces between new paragraphs.
• Try to convey feeling and emotion in your story with ample depth and detail.
• Make sure your work is original. Do not copy another writer's work.
Submission
To participate, post your entry from your Wattpad profile as a new story and tag your submission with "fanficfriday" and "differentworld". The deadline for submissions is Thursday, August 18th at 11:59 EST. Along with a creative story title, please ensure you indicate the fandom you are writing about in brackets (i.e., [Harry Potter]). You can submit one (1) story for this contest.
Dates & Judges
The contest will run for two weeks, starting today, Friday, August 5th and ending Thursday, August 18th at 11:59 EST. The Wattpad Team will choose ten (10) winners, and we will announce them on Friday, August 26th. To celebrate our favorite entries, the winners of the Different World Contest will receive a shout out from the Fanfic profile and be mentioned on our social media channels.
