Chapter 28

I Plan On Bugging You For Every Foreseeable Day Of The Future

It wasn't like everyone was upset when Drake and I told them the next morning Beau and Flannery made an appearance. They were mostly relieved they were okay and surprised they'd only just found out about what happened.

Juliet, on the other hand, was...well, I wouldn't quite say furious that the security team had let them through with no questions asked.

"What if they really turned on us, though?" she asked.

"But they didn't."

"But they don't know that, do they?"

"I bet they will once you tell them."

And she did tell them. Security was even tighter around Pallandino. Even when we left, we were IDed as we came back into town.

With Flannery and Beau telling us Vince didn't know what our next move was, we knew we had to be discrete when we went to the Neues Museum in Berlin. Knowing the key would be in the painting there, we had to contact the exhibit director and make sure it wasn't up on display whenever we were there. John was the one to arrange it to be in one of the restoration rooms where we would have full access to it.

When we were in Berlin, John, Emmy, and Eddie would be heading back to London to stay at the Raymond's house. Ryan and Jamie would be tagging along, but would only be there for a week before heading back to Pallandino.

But for now, we were all just taking it slow around Pallandino and spent time with each other, something we were all needing.

The next week, the chill finally set in for being over halfway through October. We had another week before our appointment in Berlin, but we were already packing up our things we'd accumulated over the past few weeks to have them shipped off to England. Most of it consisted of my summer clothing since I had to get a lot of new things. I hadn't prepared for the fall and winter months.

"No more shorts and t-shirts, huh?" Drake smirked at me as I came out of the bathroom that morning.

"Nope...jeans and long-sleeved t-shirts," I grinned, pulling on an oversized cardigan, too. I wasn't the only one dressed for the cold, though. He'd pulled on a zip-up hoodie over his own t-shirt and jeans.

"So what are we doing today once I get my fill of my tiny human?" I asked, picking up my boots I'd stashed in the closet.

Emmy and John really needed to stop letting me watch Eddie whenever they needed some time to rest or just have a date night by themselves. Even though they came back more than ready to spend time with their son, I still hogged him. They needed to be more careful or else I'd steal him away. I told them so, too, and they laughed.

I was serious, though.

Totally serious.

"Well," Drake started as I sat on the edge of the bed, lacing up my boots. "I was thinking we'd just take the day to ourselves. We're going back to Paddon in a few days after we go to Berlin. The only time we're going to have to ourselves is if I steal you away for a day trip to London."

"I'm not entirely opposed to that."

"I know you aren't, but I still would like for today to be just be me and you."

I grinned, standing up. "Are you asking me out on a date, Drake Garner?"

He gave me a crooked smile. "Finally, huh?"
