\Hædum\ [Kid/Child]

Before I know it, it's 12:00 in the morning. I've been
Trying to figure out what to do, should I RSVP yes, or no? I was in the middle of contemplating what to do, when there was a call on the hotel phone. I ran clumsily to go get it, knocking down a vase in the process.

"Oh, shit." I say as the vase falls and shatters along with my body.

Now sprawled out over the glass, I reach up to grab the phone from the
counter, and get up.

"Hello?" I answer.

"Oh thank god you picked up, I tried reaching your cell, but you left it in the ballroom. It's Em, she's actually in labour this time!" Del is panting from talking so quickly.

"Crap, I'm on my way!" I grab my jacket and run out the front door with nothing but my key card, pyjamas, and flip flops.

I arrive at the hospital around 12:35. I ask the nurse where Em's room is, and she points me to the right direction. I start running down the hallway, blisters forming on my feet from the wet flip flops. All I can hear are screams coming from Emily's room. I see Del sitting on the chairs outside the room.

"Contractions are 2 minutes apart." She fills me in. "We've been here for four hours. I'm sorry it took so long to reach you."

"No problem, at least I'm here now, right?!" I say out of breath.

"At least your here." She says, leaning her head on my shoulder.

A man walks out of her room, and I don't give another thought to it, but then I remember that Charlie is her doctor. I sit straight up and look up from my hands into his eyes. He's just standing there staring at me. I quickly get up and walk towards the vending machines and tell Del that I'm going to grab a snack. I don't notice he's right behind me until I grab a granola bar out of the bottom of one of the machines.

"You're bleeding." He points out.

"Jesus Christ! Don't just sneak up on people like that!" I exclaim.

"I'm sorry." He says, looking into my brown eyes. I can tell he's apologizing for more than just scaring me. I see it in his eyes. I've seen that look before... when I left.

"Thank you." I say genuinely, unable to break the eye contact.

"Oh um, here, let me fix that for you." He said, pointing to my arm and leg. I followed him into an empty room, and sat down in the examination table. I winced when he put on the rubbing alcohol on the gashes. I only realized I had them when he pointed it out. The adrenaline was wearing out, and I could now feel every little bit of the cuts and what was being done to them. He stitched me up, and we just stayed in the same place, staring at each other. He brushed a piece of hair that was glued to my forehead with sweat. All of a sudden, our lips were pressed together, and our bodies were mere millimetres apart. I pulled him closer, and he started to back off.

"Isla I can't-" he started. My hand quickly found its way to my lips, and I jumped off the table.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry, I should go." I said as I started to run down the hallway. He called my name again, but I just kept running. I passed Del and she just got up and watched me run down the hallway as well.

"Where are you going?!" She yelled.

"Home. Tell Em I love her and can't wait to meet the baby!" I said before racing out the front doors of the hospital, just like the other night.

I finally knew the decision I had to make about the invitation, and I wasn't sure it was the right one.
