what happened?
i'll ask, asking anyone,
desperate for an answer.
what happened?

what happened to us
that our faces were
stripped of smiles
and dark circles made their
homes?
what happened to us,
when numbers
used to only mark
birthdays
and didn't weigh on our back,
telling us,
that we'd never be good enough?
what happened to us
that the words of society
control our lives,
telling us how
failure is not
acceptable?
what happened to us
that the color of blood
became normal to see
and
death doesn't scare us?
what happened,
oh god,
somebody tell me,
what happened to us?
and the only answers i get
are solemn expressions
and sad eyes,
saying,
we grew up,
we grew up.
