the alarm goes off.
you turn it off,
but you don't get out.
you don't need to.
it's summer break.
you meant to turn
the alarm off yesterday,
but you didn't.
you're not really sure if you ever will.

as you lie in bed,
staring up at the ceiling,
a burning sensation
starts in your chest.
it feels like someone dropped
a weight on your chest.
it feels like knots that
are being tightened and
tightened and tightenedtightenedtightened.

oh god, you have so
much to do.
it never ends.
when will it end?

and you try to massage it out,
try to think some positive thoughts,
but all you can think about
is how much time you're wasting
lying in bed,
and all the things everyone is doing
while you're wasting your time here
lying in bed.

no one has texted you
with any invites,
no one cares about you.
they're having fun,
they're being productive.
you're just
       sitting here.
you're on your own
once more.
        truly alone.
no classmates chattering
in the backgrounds, creating
white noise. no,
it is only you and your thoughts
and that tornado hitting
your chest and lungs.

it never ends.
it never ends.
oh god,
         it never fucking        e n d s.
