Prologue
The wind whipped around me.
Just a little further.
Just a little faster.
Come on!
That's what I kept telling myself. The truth is it would never end, the chase would never end.
My bright green eyes searched for someplace to hide. Suddenly I heard it again.
Boom.
Boom.
Boom.
The footsteps got closer, and faster. I couldn't let that happen. I sped up yet again.
My sweat dripped off of my face. I could taste the salt.
Just a little further.
My legs were numb from running.
My foot caught something and I felt myself fall forward. Hard. So hard that my vision immediately went into darkness.
Pure white light shone through my closed eyes. I blinked and, without sitting up, looked around. I knew I couldn't be conscious much longer.
"Please?" I heard a man beg.
"She's not an animal!" A woman growled.
"Do you guys think she's the one?" A scratchy voice questioned, ignoring the other two.
"Could be. We will learn on the eclipse." Another voice spoke.
"So what should we do?" The woman asked
"I say we test her." The scratchy voice spoke.
"Like a lab test?" The man that was previously begging spoke up.
"No, idiot! Like what kind of test?" The woman questioned.
"I am not sure yet."
My head lulled to the side as darkness overtook me once again.
