The door slid open smoothly, and we peered in carefully. Inside was a massive shadowy cavern, but nothing else.
"Looks big enough for Appa," I whispered to Jin.
She nodded as we cautiously entered behind Jet, who'd retaken the lead.
"But no furball," she muttered back.
Once we were all in, the door slid shut behind us.
"Crapbaskets," Jin cursed, immediately pressing her back against mine, her hands held up and ready.
That's right; she's pretty good at hand-to-hand combat without her bending. But so am I. As green lanterns flared to life, I took up a stance, the light illuminating the cave and revealing the Dai Li hanging above us on chains. Ahead, Long Feng waited with several more Dai Li.
"Now that's something different," Sokka murmured, staring up at the ceiling.
"You have made yourselves enemies of the state," Long Feng said grimly as Longshot knocked an arrow. "Take them into custody."
"Not today, dirtbag!" Jin snapped as she dodged out the way, knocking me over, so the rock hand launched at us missed both of us.
Dai Li dropped down, encircling us. Toph managed to disintegrate some of the stone fists in midair, which was pretty awesome, while Muteki just punched rocks that collided with them midair. Also cool. The two earthbenders launched two Dai Li across the room with earth pillars, the pairs colliding midair. Show-offs. Jet had his hook swords and darted out from behind Toph. He skidded past one Dai Li, tripping a second one with his hook sword, slamming the guy on the ground hard.
Aang dealt with another two, while Jin and I tag-teamed the last two, with Katara and Sokka dealing with the projectiles. Longshot and Smellerbee were helping Jet out with his targets.
More Dai Li arrived, and Katara and Sokka got caught by two stone gloves, but Toph had a wall up to keep the Dai Li from dragging them off. They launched stones at Toph, who just shot herself up on a pillar, and Muteki countered with boulders, which knocked out the pillars they had done to try to catch Toph.
"Mogui," Jin grabbed the collar of my shirt and pulled me aside as stone gloves narrowly missed getting me. "Pay attention to the fight, you dork!"
Before I could retort, though, a stone glove caught Jin's arm, and the split-second terror in her eyes was all I saw before she was yanked away.
Only she was still holding my shirt, and I was pulled over before she lost her grip.
"Jin!"
Muteki was there in seconds, using his feet to launch rocks at the Dai Li, wrapping one arm around her waist, and punching the glove with his free hand. He set her down, and they took down the Dai Li with quick jabs and kicks.
"Show-off," I muttered, punching the nearest Dai Li in the nose.
"Long Feng is escaping!" Aang yelled.
"Go get 'em, Aang," Muteki yelled, earthbending like mad to try and keep the Dai Li off Aang. "We'll cover you!"
Jet broke free and took off after Aang.
"Jet, watch Aang's back!" Jin yelled after him.
"Got it!" he responded as Aang smashed the sealed door, and the two disappeared down a tunnel.
"Alright, now we're all warmed up," I said. "Time to get done!"
