Here's a thought: if there's a portal to another dimension in front of you that doesn't look like other portals to zones, don't jump in it like a curious... hedgehog.

Thanks to that, I was stuck in a weird town of some sort. Everything was dark, as if it were past midnight. The buildings on either side of me were tall, dim streetlights lining the sidewalk in front of them. It was a big city, but it wasn't all that lively. Everyone was inside a club of some sort or making out in the darkness. It. Was. Gross.

A few other people were out and about, no doubt looking for a pathetic person to mug, but no one seemed to take notice of me. Sure, I got a few strange looks from a few, but no one tried to stop me from walking down a sidewalk. C'mon, hello! I'm a giant blue hedgehog! Does no one think that's strange?!

Off in the way far distance, in the ocean, there was a tiny island with a building that was in the shape of a giant 'T'. There were a few lights on inside of it, and I would have gone and looked at it, but my curiosity had already almost killed me. I needed to be just a bit more careful. It could hold explosives or something worse. So I just looked around at the city, staring into a fast food place that served hot dogs. My tummy rumbled. I was definitely hungry. And after going through the zones in my world trying to get to Dr. Eggman, I was completely exhausted.

I froze.

What had happened to Tails?

He had been right beside me the whole time through the zones. I mean, yeah, I kind of forgot to mention that he said DON'T go into the portal, but the kid has to be wrong once in his life! Did he follow me, or was he trying to figure out what to do to bring me back? What if Dr. Eggman was here, too?

I felt like an idiot.

I sighed and sat against the wall of the hot dog place, wanting to jump in through the window and steal one. Maybe they even had chili... and cheese... I drooled just thinking about how delicious it would be. But I was better than thieves, even if I was going to starve to death.

I closed my eyes, trying not to go to sleep. I just needed a little minute of rest. Sure, there was nothing to steal from me, but who knew what this world hid inside its buildings? Slimy creatures that could swallow me in one bite? Giant weird robots controlled by a maniac like on my planet? Aliens?

A few seconds after I had shut my eyes, a shadow appeared over me. My skin tingled, and I knew there was someone in front of me. I opened my eyes with a yawn, surprised to see a man dressed in dark clothing and an orange mask over half of his face. He didn't seem to have an expression of anything.

Slowly, I stood up. This person obviously didn't want to mug me. He looked more like he wanted to kill me.

"Oh, don't get up." The strange dude said. His voice was cold and sent a shiver down my spine. Before I could do anything or react, he pulled his arm back and threw his fist into my face.

Okay, so, yeah, this place had bad guys. Like, Dr. Eggman evil bad guys. But if there were bad guys, where were the good guys?

I was slammed into the back of the hot dog building and... Nah, I still wanted a hot dog. "Hey!" I shouted, ducking as he nearly caved my face in. His fist smashed bricks in the wall that should have collapsed the whole building. "What'd I do to you?!"

"Wouldn't you like to know?" The man said. "Your very existence is contradictory to mine. Therefore, you shall die!"

"Yeah, because I definitely wanted to come here!" I shouted back. Then I thought about his sentence, realizing I didn't exactly understand it. "Wait, what does that even mean...?"

He kept on the offensive while I just tried to not get killed. He had a whole bunch of gadgets, one of which was like a deadly shrunken. He got me several times with those, and every time I tried to run away, he magically caught up to me.

Eventually, I thought I had lost him. I was on top of a small building, listening for sounds of any kind. I closed my eyes, semi-cleared my thoughts, listening... and still got thrown off by him. He had run into me, then stayed on top of me as we toppled through the air.

I growled, "Get off of me, you... you...!" He was really annoying. I didn't know what to call him.

"Slade." He said quietly. My eyes grew big, and another shiver went down my spine.

I twisted and turned, trying to get away, not wanting to crack my spine in two. In the end, I managed to turn enough to land on my left side, my lungs bursting like a balloon. He stood over me, watching to see if I would die or if he would have to kill me.

I groaned as I tried to get up, but the pain in my side subsided enough for me to handle after about half a minute. The pain still made me woozy.

This wasn't a fight I was going to win, but I could try and make it a tie. I jumped up, running away, pausing every few seconds to catch my breath.

"Running away will get you nothing." The man said. Yeah, he was kind of right considering the condition I was in. "Sit still and die!"

"I don't think so!" I replied at the empty darkness.

For a while, nothing happened, so I stopped and looked at my side. It was barely bleeding, but it was bruised and still hurt a ton. I could barely breathe, and the pain made my running slower. But, as soon as I heard a sound of any sort, whether it was a cat or a drip of water, I started to run again.

I trapped myself in an alley. I turned, but it was too late. Slade was slowly walking towards me. The buildings were too tall to run up without me falling down them.

For once, I wasn't fast enough.

My breathing quickened even more, my heart racing as if it was going to jump out and attack the guy. I backed into a wall as Slade came closer and closer, trying to devise a plan of ANY kind. When I tried to slide past him, he grabbed my neck, pushing me against a wall. My lungs burst again, my ribs becoming more and more sore. He said nothing as I kicked and tried to get away, my exhaustion being paired with the lovely feeling of being unable to breathe.

My vision turned red, my limbs failing. I struggled to stay alive. There was a reason I hated water. It had to do with the same reason I hated being choked to death.

In the nick of time, Slade and I were thrown away from each other, finally letting me catch my breath. There were four weird kids going after Slade.

There was a girl who knelt on the ground next to me. "Are you alright?" She asked. Her eyes were glowing green, and her hair was slightly red. I tried to reply, but I was stuck in a coughing fit and the wind had been knocked out of me, like, three times. And, by the way, when your ribs are broken, coughing hurts. A LOT.

But Slade didn't give up. Even with the kids following him, there was nothing more he wanted than to kill me. But as he came close to me, the girl stood up, her hands glowing. "You will not harm anyone!"

With a shot that looked like it would have completely incinerated anyone else, she shot a huge green blast at Slade, who disappeared afterwards. I would have assumed that he had been killed, but there was nothing that remained of him. He had gotten away, and even though the evidence showed otherwise, I was sure of it.

"Get him out of here before Slade comes back." One of the kids said. I couldn't see any of them because of the darkness. Man, this place needed more lights. But as someone touched me, I threw my foot out, kicking their arm. The others tried to get me, but I was not going to be captured by someone else without a fight.

"Raven!" The same boy who had given the other order yelled.

Of course, knowing my luck for that day, one of them trapped me in a black blob of some sort. I couldn't move at all. My vision blurred more than it had been. "What do you want?" I asked, and I couldn't help but yawn.

"Just relax." The boy said. His words were getting slower and slower with every second. "We're here to help you."

I closed my eyes, letting the weird dark void thing engulf me. Which, you know, is kind of creepy.
