warning: this chapter's also a bit explicit (it's also lengthy)

"Camz? Ca-...where the hell did you go?" Lauren mumbled sleepily to the empty room. She rubbed her eyes through the blur of sleep but sat up straight when she was answered with a long string of agonizing groans coming from somewhere inside the apartment.
It felt odd; not too long ago the roles reversed while her roommate was frantically rushing out of bed to find her hunched over a toilet from drug withdrawal and Lauren—in her sleepy state—grew incredibly confused as to why Camila would be suffering through the same thing. Since when did she do drugs?
She blinked rapidly to adjust to the light of the early morning shining into their apartment and rubbed her eyes furiously but tripped over the brunette she was looking for, who was curled up in the fetal position on the floor, eyes squeezed shut tight.
"Ow. What in the world..." she trailed off, pushing herself off the floor where she landed as Camila continued to groan in pain. "What's the matter with you?"
She responded with a strained, muffled whine and Lauren rolled her eyes.
"Okay now how about you answer in English and not dying whale this time?" she tried again and the girl moved her head a little bit to speak properly.
"I got my period."
"Oh. Yikes, can't relate."
"Shut up. No uterus, no opinion," she mumbled tiredly, too miserable to actually argue with the green eyed girl standing over her.
"Hey, I've had them before. And listen, I birthed a child."
"You had a C-section."
"Well the process wasn't exactly a walk in the park, you know," she told her pointedly, to which Camila finally opened her eye to look up at her, squinting in the sunlight.
"Okay fair point."
She hugged her body closer into itself, curling up even further if it were even possible, and whimpered in pain once again with her eyes shut. Lauren sighed, pushing some hair out of her face.
"At least get off the floor. That can't be helping."
"I can't move."
"Yes you can."
"No just leave me alone. Deposit me in the nearest trash receptacle and let me rest."
"For God's sake," she muttered under her breath and barely contemplated her next move before crouching down and sliding her arms underneath the girl's small frame, one under her legs, the other around her back. She used all the strength she had first thing in the morning and lifted her roommate—who didn't protest or question her at all—off the ground. "Bed or couch?"
She was answered with another strangled noise. Lauren could smell her shampoo with her hair tickling her skin as she buried her face in her shoulder, her arms clinging to her neck like a child. She shook her head and focused on holding her up.
"Come on, bed or couch? I'm still in pain too so pick before I drop you."
"Couch," she mumbled weakly against the fabric of her shirt. Lauren sighed and carried her over the—thankfully—short distance to the living room couch and set her down as gently as she could. "Thank you, Lauren," she said in a small, sleepy voice. She clutched the pillow tightly and hugged it to her chest.
"Yeah, don't mention it. But are you like, okay? I don't remember you being this bad last month."
"Sometimes it's fine sometimes it's terrible. This time it's terrible."
