Eventide

©2016, Olan L. Smith

A cool chilly night is often filled with lights.

A host of stars strewn cross the heavens brightly

Excel the coals of darken voids, fulfilling heights

Bring sparkle through those magical dots that nightly

Traipse across blacken skies, as eventide smites

Dour Helios, o'er his throne, is dimmed for rightly

Falls the King of Day, and evil rules in disgrace.

Yet, who in sight will doubt the return of grace.

A.N. The Rispetto poem is one of the oldest of Italian poetry styles. The Rispetto can have anywhere from eight to twelve syllable in eight lines (two quatrains), this one has ten to twelve syllable mostly using iambic rhythm with a rhyme scheme of abaababcc. The above photo is courteous of NASA.
