Beyond Opinion
©09-08-2020, Olan L. Smith
Ten-cents worth is the bulk of a thought.
What is virtue worth? more, I hope―
For we all chip in for the whole,
And right versus wrong cancel each other,
Until all that's left is the weight
Of a single idea thrust upon the
World to tilt it one way or another,
Plus or minus it doesn't matter.
It is the process of counterbalances,
And each moment this process ensues,
And we muddle along thinking nothing
Matters but our mundane lives.
Yet, in the process of balance and discernment
Is revealed, and its name is liberty.
A/N: "Beyond Opinion" is a free-verse 14 line poem.
