You Touch Me

©2019, Olan L. Smith

I feel you sit on my bed at night,

The mattress still has the squeak,

But I stretch and you're absent.

I roll back and feel warm knowing

Although I can't see you, you're there.

I trust my senses more than my vision,

These day. You don't say anything to me,

But you're there nonetheless, a comfort

To an old man who sleeps alone. How do

I know you're there? I know because you

Touched me, no one forgets your caress.
