Chapter 27

“You think so?” I'm straight up nervous. I rub my sweaty palms together and made a stealthy glance at Michael.

I look at Eva after I feel her hand on my shoulder. “You don't need to be nervous. I'm certain you can do this. I know your heart is already into it. You'll do great”.

“Thank you”. I inhale and exhale deeply. I walk off. I hope he likes it.

What if I mess up? No you won't mess up. You know how to do this so cut the crap.

“Ok”. I breath out.

I walk up the steps and on the stage. I took the mic from its stand.

I look at Michael, but he was already looking at me, questioningly. I guess he didn't miss me walking off.

The music stops.

“Um...Hello everyone. May I have your attention please?” I focussed on Michael giving him a small smile.

One by one everyone is turning around giving me their undivided attention with a questioning gaze.

I look to see Monique giving me a curious look too. I saw Wendy and everyone who's temporarily living here. Mom, uncle N, Amelia, Leon, Nicolas, Eva, Shelia, Henry. Everyone! This is just the perfect moment.

“I'm going to sing a song”. I heard gasps but I believe it's from my mom or Monique, because they know that I've stopped a long time ago. Michael however...Well he looks shocked and really curious.

“I promised to sing for you a few years back Michael, but I never got the chance to, so instead of singing a random song, I've wrote this one just for you”.

FLASHBACK

Five years ago

“Can you promise me something?”. He asked. What could that be?.

“Depends”.

“Come on Akeilia. I'm sure what I'm asking won't be too difficult for you to do”. Hmmm.

“Fine, what is it?”.

“Can you...sing for me?”. I stop. What?.

“It doesn't have to be today or tomorrow. You can do it whenever you feel comfortable to”.

PRESENT

“Hmmmm hmmm. Yeeah”. I started the song and even in my own ears a sound beautiful. Eva already got someone to create a rhythm for it. He widen his eyes, his mouth slightly ajar. As I continued I never took my eyes off him, singing with my heart and looking passionately in his eyes.

“You told me everything's gonna be oookayyy. You never left my side!” His shocked expression forms into a smile. A very big one.

I can't believe I've wasted five years being away from this wonderful man, who'd went as far as sacrificing his life for me. Who protected me, cares for me. But I know that it's not too late. As a matter of fact, it seems to be just the right time. Mom wouldn't have a problem with it now because I'm an adult. I'm successful and I've passed the worst.

“Words can't explain the way I feel. I just can't find the words to express thiiis. So I'm singing to youuu for you to understand, that I cannot find a better maaan...Like you, like youuu! I love youuu! and I neeeed you!...And I will ever...Feel that waaayyy!”

FLASHBACK

“Someone's a bit exci-”. Before he could finish his sentence I was already in his arms. I totally forgot about my wound. It hurts but I can bare it.
