It's the first snow...

Did you look outside? It's snowing for the first time...

Snow is falling! Can you believe it? Already?

Outside, the wind blew. It was cold, skin shivering. It howled, almost threateningly. You'd want to go out and touch the clean white snow, but you'd be fearful of the iciness of the air... the dark gray clouds... the sound of the shrieking wind.

Your heart would pound at the thought alone. Even if it was Sunday, a time when the lobby doors would open big, letting those who wanted to leave exit freely, but today, on the first snow, it was a much warmer idea to stay indoors.

The chilliness made Fayth rub her hands together. As she looked out of the long windows in the hall, the gray sky and the falling snow only made her heart feel heavier. It was terrifying, this day, and the cold atmosphere wasn't in any way making her feel better.

Everything felt wrong.

Different.

Grayer.

Terrifyingly empty.

It was too quiet, too dead. As she walked through the halls, making her way towards the lobby, she almost wanted to stop. To turn Around. To go back into her room, where she'll stay under her covers and stay warm... unaware of everything that could be.

Like a bear who could sleep throughout the winter... bypassing all its misfortunes.

Today was a nerve-racking day for her. Today life here would either continue or everything she had worked up to would fall apart. A dark ball made of ignorance was there, laced and entwined into what was now her beating heart. She can feel it in her chest. She can feel the pulse in her ears, her throat. It made her head hazy with overly complicated thoughts.

She had taken so many of her candies to prepare for her meeting today, and her body felt as close to dead as it ever was.

The grayness outside casted its color into the windows, into the Academy. The cold air from whichever door that was open rushed in, making her walk faster, in hopes to get inside the waiting warm car sooner. She wanted today to be over already, with whatever outcomes it may bring. Whether bad or good, she wanted to get over it and deal with its consequences already.

"It's the first snow..." One of the students she passed said.

She kept on walking, hoping no one would notice who she was. Her hair color, her makeup, and her clothes were all what Fayth Armstrong was. In this moment, she was no longer Rihanna Gessner walking the halls of the Academy.

"Did you look outside? It's snowing for the first time..."

She was glad the students attention was distracted by the first snow.

"Snow is falling! Can you believe it? Already?"

She made her way down the stairs.

Into the lobby...

Then...

She came to a halt.

A crowd of students had come together in front of the front doors, which were strangely wide open in the midst of this weather. Fayth looked over the crowd, wondering why such a gathering had taken place on a free Sunday off. They whispered to one another, their expressions filled with worry and shock.

As those whispers traveled closer to Fayth, the atmosphere became more suffocating, more heart shivering.

It was so eerie. The walls, the air, the space, everything had a heart sinking feeling stuck to it. Her chest tightened.
