1. In Loving Memory ( Part One )

Roni Quinn

I woke this morning because of the sun shining through the blinds and because of my dog and best friend, Bash. He licked my face causing me to laugh and wake up.

"Ok,ok I'm up." I laughed.

I sat up and headed downstairs and Bash followed. I looked over on the couch and saw my childhood best friend, Lottie knocked out sleep. I knew she had a long night because of her night job. I quietly snuck into the kitchen and filled Bash's bowls with food and water, after I began to make some coffee.

Today was the anniversary of my sisters death. I couldn't believe that a whole year passed by so quickly. It seemed like yesterday that the two of us were laughing and having fun together. Lola meant everything to me because she was the only family I had left, it's gonna be really hard to move on without her.

I zoned out without even realizing it because Lottie strolled into the kitchen. She looked really tired as she made herself a cup of coffee with extra sugar and extra bourbon. Lottie sat down at the island of the kitchen and took a sip.

"Morning." Lottie's voice was raspy.

"Morning, long night?" I asked.

"Oh you have no idea." Lottie said. "My boss is making me work overtime."

"Why don't you quit?" I asked.

"Because the money's good and no one else is hiring." Lottie said.

I shrugged my shoulders and took a sip of my coffee. There was a silence between us because we both hated mornings and we know we both get without coffee.

"So what are you gonna do today?" Lottie asked breaking the silence.

"I don't know." I said. "Maybe I'll go visit her or something."

"Or we should go out and celebrate the way Lola does." Lottie suggested.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"You and I both know that Lola was the main party girl out of the three of us. And if we were to celebrate her the way she would want us too, it only makes sense for us to go out and have fun. Plus it looks like you really need too after everything." Lottie explained.

Looking back, I couldn't help but feel like Lottie is right. Lola was always the one who wanted me to have fun no matter the mood. She was the fun one out of the two of us and what better way to honor her memory by living for the moment and no caring about the consequences.

"Ok." I said.

"Ok what?" Lottie questioned.

"Ok. Let's go have some fun tonight." I said.

"Yes! That's my girl!" Lottie yelled.

Bash started barking as Lottie got up from the table and started dancing. I couldn't help but look at her and laugh. I knew that I was regretting this instantly, but I didn't care because it was all for Lola.
