CENTRAL CITY, THE NIGHT OF THE PARTICLE ACCELERATOR EXPOLSION.
It was night and I was walking to my temporary place I was staying in. It was a decent apartment, I suppose.
I spent thirty minutes talking to my older brother. "Neeko, I will be home soon. You don't have to tell mom about me going to Central-- Hold on, Izzie's calling me."
I accept my best friend's call. "Hey, Iz. What? Of course I'm in Central City. Didn't Sanjay tell you? He didn't?" I listen then to Izzie ranting about how our friend Sanjay doesn't tell her anything. "...Um, so, I'll be staying for a few days or so. Maybe more.
Yes, I know I've gotta protect Attin City from villains. Alter-ego Electrical Strike can wait... Yeah, I know my powers aren't too stable since my run-in with Fireblazer. But I promise I will try to sort out my abilities." I pause.
I can hear a rumbling noise. I look up and see a bright light.
I ignored it; which as I think back to this exact time, that was not wise. But things happen for a reason, don't they?
"Izzie, listen. I need you to tell--" The light in the distance grows immensely. I now have to shade my eyes. A gust of wind blows, and the light forms a giant shock wave.
My eyes widen, as I can see it coming right for me. I nearly drop my phone.
I should have teleported, but who knows, with my unstable powers, I might end up in some dangerous place.
Instead of fleeing, I stay put. The hair on the back of my neck stands up, as the rolling energy swallows me up.
I'm driven back, and tumble into a heap. My satchel that I was carrying goes flying. I can feel the tidal wave of energy rush over me.
My muscles tense up, as power surges into me.
I lay plastered onto the ground, as the golden colored air blasts by. I can hear Izzie's voice buzzing from my phone over the noise of the radiation.
I can recall the time when I first got my powers, and I got hit with almost the same stuff. But this doesn't look like any radiation I've seen, in fact, I'm surprised the radiation has any color at all.
I vision goes in and out, one second I'm conscious, the next I'm not.
Out of the corner of my eye, I can see the waves of energy impact everything around the Central City harbor.
Then, my eyes roll back in my head, and my out.
When I woke up, my powers were going haywire, and electricity was radiating out like hungry flames of fire.
I stare at the pale blue sparks coming from my hands.
Its still nighttime, and the only thing lit up on the street is me. I clench my hands into fists, and will my power to ease. The electricity fades.
My powers seem more stable, and I can control them more easily.
I teleport back to my feet, stumble a few times, regaining my footing since the impact. I look around, the city seems mostly intact.
"That was weird," I murmur. I pick up my phone off the asphalt. The line's dead. I put my device back in my jean pocket.
My abilities are more sharper, and powerful than they were before, which was an improvement.
Without even questioning any of it, I walked to my temporary apartment.
But I am almost certain that wasn't the only change in this city.
10 1/2 MONTHS AFTER THE INCIDENT. . .
I was back in Central City, picking up coffee for my boss, Ms. Hart, because she likes CC Jitters for some reason.
I get to the counter, and smile at the barista.
She grins, "what can I get you today?"
"Can I get a Central City Simmerer please? With froth, please."
"Sure thing." The barista walks away, to get my boss's drink.
I tap my finger's on the rim of the counter, and glance around.
I spot a picture on display. I look at it closely. It as a blurry image of a red figure, with lightning trailing behind it.
"Okay, here you are," the barista said, holding Ms. Hart's coffee. "One Central City Simmerer with froth. That'll be ten dollars please."
I give her my cash. "Sorry, but who is this picture of?" I show her the photo of the red blur.
The barista's friendly grin grows, "that is our new hero, they call him The Flash."
"The Flash," I repeated. "He looks fast."
"Hence his name... Have a nice day."
"You too," I place the photo down, and walk out of Jitters.
As soon as the door closes, a light flies by me.
I'm so surprised, I drop the coffee. But instead of it hitting the ground, a person dressed in red is holding it.
"Here you go miss," the guy says. He has to be The Flash. The Central City hero smiles kindly.
I take the cup from him, "you're The Flash?" I'm far to focused on his green eyes to ask anything else.
"Yeah... And sorry, good little chat, but I gotta run. Great to help you though," then he's off.
My brown hair blows, and The Flash is gone without a trace.
I blink a few times. I look around to see if anyone's watching, then I teleport.
I end up back at home, and put my satchel and the coffee on my table. I ditch my clothes, slip on my suit, and teleport back to Central City.
I pull my mask on my face, and hear sirens.
I run down the sidewalk, and snag a runaway crook, with a strand of lightning. Which did not defy the laws of physics. I slam the thief into the concrete.
Don't ask me how I knew he was coming, but I guess I was at the right place at the right time.
"Whoa," a voice says. "How did you do that?"
I turn around, and see the Flash.
"How do you run so fast?" I ask, with a smirk.
"Who are you?"
"I can't tell you that," I walk away.
"Hey, come back!"
He runs right in front of me. "I mean your superhero name, assuming you're a superhero."
"Its Electrical Strike."
I teleport back to Attin. I wondered why the Flash wanted to know about me so badly.
Another day, in the home city of the Flash, was spent looking for parts for Sanjay's experiment.
He told me to go to STAR Labs, because I'm guessing some guy named Cisco Ramon had what he needed.
I walked by the Central City harbor, and went into the building. I heard my phone buzzing in my pocket. I had to text my boss, Ms. Hart, about her meeting.
I did not go too far, looking down at the screen, before I smacked into someone.
"Oh my God, I am so sorry," I said looking up at him.
"No its perfectly okay," the guy with brown hair and green eyes smiles. "I should be the one who should be watching where they're going."
I simper, then I remember my task. "Uh, do you know where I could find Cisco Ramon? My friend sent me to collect some things from him."
"Yeah, sure. Follow me." The guy turns around, and leads me to an elevator. We walk inside. "I'm Barry, by the way." He smiles at me as the doors close.
"Hi Barry, I'm Sky." I smile back, trying to keep my cool. We shake hands, and then there is a small jolt of electricity from our connection. "Oops, sorry. I must have electrical powers or something," I joke. But then I remember that he may take that literally, which I do literally have those powers. "I mean, not really."
"Yeah, because only Electrical Strike has that," Barry says.
"You know about Electrical Strike? She's only been in the city for a day. At least, that's what I heard," I add quickly.
"She met the Flash, I think. And from what I heard from The Flash, she can teleport, and its pretty awesome."
"Really? Wait, you know The Flash?"
"Uh, kind of."
"I think The Flash is cool, and he seems like a great person."
"Well that's good to know you think that." He leads me down a curved concrete hallway.
We walk into an open room, at the end of it. I spot a guy with nearly shoulder length black hair, wearing a Big Bang Theory t-shirt.
"Are you Cisco?" I ask him.
"Uh," the guy says, he looks up from what he's doing. "Man, I told you, you can't bring people in here!" He's talking to Barry.
"I know. But she was looking for you."
"What does... this girl want?" Cisco walks to us, looking me over.
"My friend Sanjay wants parts for..." I glance quickly around the room. My eyes fall on a manikin in a section of the wall. "Is that--" I swear that looks like... "--The Flash's suit?"
"What?" Cisco whirls around. "Nope. That is definetly not. Could we, uh, go into the hall?"
Cisco gives Barry a worried look.
I walk by him, and look at the red suit. I turn to look at them. "You're The Flash?"
Barry scratches the back of his neck nervously.
"Uuum," his green eyes flick back and forth between me and the suit.
"Promise you won't tell anyone?" Cisco asks, all his hopes of keeping the secret are gone.
"Ya know," I reach into my satchel. "I think I can relate to you guys pretty well." I pull out my mask, and unzip my leather jacket, revealing my own suit. "Because you guys heard of Electrical Strike, obviously."
"No way," Cisco says, his expression in between surprise and that look fanboys get when they meet their idols.
Barry just smiles. "Hey Strike."
From that day on, my life was more open to superhero friends, and a new life in general.
PRESENT DAY.
I still think about that day when Barry and I formally met as who we truly are. Two superheroes, and people who needed another friend to guide each other along.
I may not have known him for as long as Iris, but I felt like I knew for a lot longer.
2013's Particle Accelerator explosion gave both Barry and I a new start as heroes. I was already a superhero then, but the accident gave me a new start in friendships. I met new people who are like my family, and I would hate to lose them.
I sit in my modernized armchair and ponder, lost in my thoughts.
Then I get this feeling that something's wrong.
"Barry? Are you still here?" I ask, siting up straighter.
"Yeah," his voice comes from my couch. "You know, you look so peaceful sitting there. Sometimes its hard to believe that you're the same kickass hero that you are."
I don't say anything, and get to my feet. I uneasily pace around my apartment.
"What's wrong?" Barry gets up too, and looks at me.
"I have a feeling."
"A good one, I hope."
"I wish... Its like we lost someone. Like they turned to the Dark Side or something."
"Cisco hasn't texted me or anything. We're okay," he assures me, and takes my hand in his.
I look at my hand in his. Then I pull away.
"I can't shake this feeling. I think something bad has happened."
Author's Note: Ooooo, Killer Frost foreshadowing for the next new episode on April 25th! (Spoilers, but you knew that.)
Plus, some mentions of Electrical Strike's original origin, in iSuperhero.
Vol. 2 of that will be coming soon-ish. I have not decided a release date, or have even started the episode for that yet.
Updating after the next episode. Byeeeeeeee!
