We all stepped out of the RV, except for Maggie and Glenn. I stood tall beside Carl and kept my hand on the pistol I took.
I looked at the group of all men in front of us, blocking the road. If I were a betting type of person, I'd say they're Saviors.
They had a man tied up on the road, and it looked like he was dead, or close to being dead. Rick and the leader exchanged some words, but my focus was on the man, until I heard something I didn't like.
"We'll probably have to kill one of you, just how it goes." I glared at the man, not understanding why he was doing any of this.
"See, I was just about to ask for all of your stuff, except I'm not going to kill one of you. Any more of you."
A member of their group started shaking a spray can, and walked up to the almost dead if not dead guy. He painted an X on the guy's torso.
"My deal is the only deal, we don't negotiate." Their leader said. I shifted my weight and Rick gave us the signal to head back into the RV.
"We're leaving." Rick stated and began walking away.
"That's okay, plenty of ways to get where you're going." I scrunched my eyebrows in confusion, not knowing how they knew where we were headed.
"You wanna make this your last day on Earth?" Rick asked before he stepped into the RV.
"No, but that is a good thing to bring up. What if it's the last day on Earth for you, or someone you love? Maybe you should be extra nice to the people in that RV. Cause you never know." The man stopped talking and Rick sat in the RV.
I got an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach, something just didn't seem right.
We backed away from the group and continued to Hilltop. I leaned into Carl's shoulder, needing to feel some type of comfort, the man's words struck a nerve.
"We'll be okay." Carl said and kissed the top of my head.
"I sure hope so." I said, monotonously, staring at the wall across from me.
"Bitch nuts." Abraham said after driving roughly 15 minutes. The RV slowed to a stop and we all looked out of the windshield.
Rick counted all of the people standing in the road, it would be 15 to 6, there's no way we could take them on. Abraham reversed out of the situation, one of the group members fired their gun into the air as a sort of warning.
I took a calming breath as we turned away, and I was getting nervous about being in the RV.
We continued to try to reach Hilltop before sundown, we were all getting anxious.
"How are we on gas?" Rick asked.
"Half a tank." Abraham answered. At least we'd have enough gas for a while longer.
I found some peace in that, and resumed my position up against Carl's shoulder. Maggie was still in dire need of help, her condition only getting worse.
"We've got a roadblock." Abraham said, and I joined in on looking at what the predicament was. It was a line of walkers chained together, we couldn't go through it, it might damage the RV too badly.
"Stay here." Carl whispered in my ear, and I was too nervous to say no. Everyone else but Abraham, Glenn, and Maggie went out to help, and I sat inside a nervous wreck. It was unlike me.
I closed my eyes in hopes of gathering my thoughts and easing my nerves, only to be met with the sound of multiple gunshots. I sprung up out of my seat and watched the scene unfold. People in the woods were taking shots at the group, Rick was killing off the chain of walkers.
Shots were being fired from all directions and I was scared someone was going to be hit.
They all ran back onto the RV, and I checked Carl over to make sure he was fine, which he was.
"Thank God you were in here." He said and pulled me in for a hug. The trip continued, but not for long.
"Rick." Abraham sounded defeated. I took a glimpse and saw a group blocking the road, about 30 people in numbers, all with guns.
"Go back." Rick said.
"Where to?" Abraham asked and it seemed as if nobody had the answer.
We turned back, with no destination in mind this time, we only tried to reach Hilltop, and dusk was approaching fast.
I tapped my foot on the floor, wanting this to be all over with.
Ten minutes of traveling later, and we hit another roadblock, this time it was a pile of logs.
Everyone got out of the RV, exasperated and defeated.
"We are neck deep in shit creek with our mouths wide open." Abraham said, observing the scene. I nodded my head in agreement, no matter how weird the metaphor was.
The rustling of chains behind us made us look, and hanging from a bridge was the almost dead if not dead guy, hanging.
What kind of monsters are we dealing with?
"You treatin' your people right? It may be their last day on Earth, or yours." A voice said from behind the logs. The logs went up in flames.
"You guys better get to where you're going, it's gonna get pretty hot." The voice said, the same one from the first group we ran into.
Everyone ran back to the RV, and it seemed like the cycle was never going to end. Carl sat across from me, and we shared an exasperated and defeated look. We were lost, and didn't know what to do, it seems like all hope is gone.
I wanted to give up, just go back to Alexandria, but we were trapped, it was evident that we weren't getting out of this. Not without people dying anyways.
