its time to rest

The afternoon light
casts its warm golden glow,
hitting the chandeliers crystals

and splashing rainbows over the walls.

Mother hands me a cup
of icy, freshly squeezed orange juice
and I curl next to her on the sofa.

She sighs,
her chest heaving,
and wraps her arms around me.

Sniffing slightly, I bury my face in her shoulder.
"I'm sorry," I mumble.

"I know."

She replies.
Her fingers thread though my hair.

"This is how you learn; from your mistakes.
Sometimes, it's wiser to pick your battles.
But
Harmony?"

"...Yes?"

"Would you like

me to teach you at home?"

"What do you mean?"

"You don't have to go back to school,

if you don't want to."

I gape at her,
nearly dropping my glass in shock.

"Really?"

"Really."
