The peace feels wrong now.
The silence is unsettling
and my heart is restless.
It's been a day since Zaina and her family
returned to Japan.
Two days since my fight.
I miss Mei and Kiya,
and texting is good but it's not the same.
"Harmony, darling, I have an idea.
Would you like to hear it?"
Mother says suddenly.She stops chopping up the vegetables
and looks over to where I sit at the breakfast bar,
with my homework spread out in front of me.
It's nearly time for dinner
and I can hear Suki humming as she reads
in the living room behind me.
"Is it about school?"
"Yes."
I hesitate,
