"Is it true you're not gonna go to school for a bit?"
Suki whispers.
It's late and we'd said goodnight
to Mother about an hour ago.
She huddles closer,
pressing our sides together
and wrapping the duvet tightly
over our shoulders.
The moon shines starkly against its black backdrop
and its light spills onto my bed sheets.
Suki's dark eyes shine like stars
as she turns to look at me.
"Yes, it's true."
"I think you were very brave."
She tells me.
"Those girls got what was coming for them."
"I'll miss you."
I tell her.
She sighs
